The meeting was convened at 9:00 a.m. by Chairperson Den Patten.

Proposals:

Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies Minor (change in requirements)

·  Revised proposal received from Deb Gentry and Janie Leatherman

and distributed to Council members.

·  Motion by Jeff Bakken; seconded by Kay Weir; proposal was approved.

MAT 131 Geometric Reasoning: Geometry as Earth Measures (MC-QR)

·  Revised proposal received from Sherry Meier, along with letter of

support from Dr. Catherine Konsky, Chair of Mathematics.

·  Motion by Steve McCaw; seconded by John Poole; proposal approved.

Proposer should be made aware of potential concerns using

word "attendance" rather than "participation" on pg. 3 of syllabus.

Preproposals:

Black Music I and II (OC-DKCC/FA)

·  Copies were distributed and subcommittee appointed (Alicia Lamacki, Tak

Cheung, Steve McCaw) for review; discussion at next meeting.

FOR 116 Second-Year Foreign Language (Part II) (MC-LH)

·  Kay stated that Kirk Widdison had agreed to send in full proposal;

will address writing issue in new proposal.

Den once again asked for volunteers to be cross-member with General Education Coordinating Committee. Topic will be discussed at next meeting with the hope that schedules can be worked out to allow a member to attend those meetings.

Since Lou is not in attendance today, the discussion regarding the FOI Incentive Plan Options (Educating Illinois General Education Implementation Team document) will take place at next meeting.

Den also reminded the Council members that all Inner Core syllabi will be reviewed in the near future. Bonnie is currently collecting the syllabi and teams will be appointed at a later date.

A discussion took place regarding IDS 202.49 Diversity and Communication (Honors Colloquium, John Baldwin). Subcommittee (Patty Dunn, Den Patten, Dennis Grimes) had no concerns. Course is proposed as 3 hour credit in Outer Core-Humanities for Honors students in Gen Ed. Steve Rosenbaum spoke about the course in absence of John Baldwin, who was scheduled to arrive later during the meeting. Motion by Jamal Nassar; seconded by Tak Cheung; approved as OC-DKCC/H credit.

The meeting adjourned at 9:22 a.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, at 9:00 a.m.
