Welcome and Introductions

  1. Minutes

Minutes from previous meeting were reviewed. Joseph O’ Brien made a correction to old business regarding the printing of CACE brochures from South Middlesex Vocational School to Northeast Metropolitan Vocational School. Correction noted. Paul Zinni moved to accept the minutes. Seconded by Anne Marie Carr-Reardon

  • Reimbursements for attendance at NAFEPA conference for Paul Zinni, Anne Marie Carr-Reardon, and Marie Deedy $4601.82
  • Reimbursement to Anne Marie Carr-Reardon for March Luncheon/April Meeting$1075.33
  • Best Western Technical Assistance meeting breakfast $2541.23
  • Balance on May 31, 2013 $26,185.05

  1. Conference Report- Susan LeVine for Patricia Guzieka
  • Verification forms were sent to all vendors
  • Emails were sent to all keynote speakers requesting bios and a picture
  • Focus of conference is leadership
  • Mike Woods is sending out invitations to vendors to sponsor Friday breakfast and lunch
  • David DeShriver will be presenting the view from Washington
  • Alex Lilley will be contacted about presenting for the DESE

  1. Membership-Janice Rotella
  • Breakfast at the technical meeting was very well received
  • Brochures led a few people to contact Janice about membership
  • The CACE website will have updates posted
  • 90% of CACE membership comes with conference registration
  • Heather Steenburgh suggested staffing a table at the next technical meeting for people to ask questions.
  • Discussion about reaching out to charter schools
  • Paul Zinni suggested forming a communication committee to follow up on how to include members who are unable to attend meetings. Heather Steenburgh, Corrine Brems, and Janice Rotella will be the committee members.
  1. State legislation-Anne Marie Carr-Reardon
  • Discussion about the consequences of Title I portability
  • District leaders are beginning to view Title I as a funding source, the focus appears to be moving away from the war on poverty
  • Anne Marie attended the Committee of Practitioners meeting but the information presented was similar to the Title I Technical meeting
  • Anne Marie suggested that DESE should consider sharing effective practices from around the state with the committee
  1. Historian-Dianne Casilli
  • Work on updating the binder is ongoing
  1. Federal Report-Paul Zinni
  • Whiteboard Advisors have signed a contract with NAFEPA and will be writing a newsletter on ESEA issues every other week.
  • Contact Paul Zinni if you did not receive the newsletter Connections
  • Every newsletter will have questions that readers can answer through Survey Monkey.
  • Every other month Whiteboard Advisors will produce a free webinar for NAFEPA members.
  • The first webinar is June 6 at 4:00.
  • 1,000 seats are available
  • No news regarding re-authorization, budget, or waivers
  • Nothing has been done to offset sequestration

  • Barbara Barros posed a question about ranking of private school students for Title I services.
  • Membership provided suggestions about working with private schools
