STUDENT COMMITTEE

VOLUNTEER INTEREST FORM FOR 2018

The Student Committee, representing the interests of student members of CEC, reports directly to the CEC Board of Directors. Two positions will be available for a two-year term, beginning January 1, 2018.

Composition: The Student Committee consists of seven members: the two Student Representatives to the CEC Representative Assembly (elected by the student members of CEC), and five other members. In addition, the student member of the CEC Board of Directors serves as an ex-officio member of the Committee.

Duties:

§  Advise the Board of Directors on ways to recruit, mentor, and support individuals, including individuals from diverse backgrounds, entering the profession.

§  Advise the Board of Directors on ways to enhance the membership experience of student members and encourage their transition to professional membership.

§  Determine the recipients of the Student Awards.

§  Plan and conduct a Student Forum at the annual Convention & Expo.

§  Solicit nominations and select candidates for the Student Representative to the Representative Assembly.

Qualifications: You must be a current CEC Student member to serve on the Student Committee. Student members must be a full-time student during the academic year as defined by an accredited college or university, or a part-time student who is not engaged in full-time employment as a certified professional in the field of education.

Experience in conference/workshop planning, technology/web, membership recruitment/retention, writing/editing, and public relations are desirable but not required.

Time Commitment: Committee members are expected to be well-prepared for and actively participate in all meetings and online discussions (as applicable), and to carry out tasks as assigned. The time commitment is approximately 1 hour every other month for conference calls and an additional 1-2 hours per month for other activities, such as online discussions, reviewing materials, etc.

All members of the Student Committee are expected to attend the annual Convention & Expo to participate in meetings of the Committee and other student-focused events. Reimbursement for registration, travel, accommodations, and meals is provided.

INTRUCTIONS: This form should be completed by any CEC student member wishing to be considered for a position on CEC’s Student Committee. Membership on committees is determined by the chair, subject to approval by the President. All CEC committee chairs and members must be current members of CEC and maintain membership throughout their term on the committee.

Terms of Agreement:

§  I understand that all members of the Student Committee are expected to attend the annual CEC Convention & Expo to attend meetings of the Committee, and are provided registration, accommodations, travel, and meal reimbursement to attend the Convention.

§  I understand that all CEC Committee members are expected to be well-prepared for and actively participate in all meetings and online discussions (as applicable), and to carry out tasks as assigned. If appointed, I am willing to fulfill these obligations and will immediately notify the committee chair if I am unable to meet them.
