B. One's facial expression can be changed by the failure to study natural brow

lines

C. Eyebrow shaping is extremely important in the art of cosmetics

D. General rules

1. Both eyes must be balanced

III.Depilatory

A. Used

1. Underarms

2. Legs (Nair)

3. Lip (Surgi-cream)

B. Not used near eyes - could cause burning

C. Facial skin might be too sensitive to use and become irritated

D. Cream base

1. Barium sulphide

2. Sulfur odor present when applied

E. Skin may become inflamed if left on too long

IV.Electrolysis

A. Use a probe compatible with hair type

B. 3 - 5 diopter dazer lamp

C. Insert minute probe into hair follicle opening

D. Apply sort-wave heat aimed at the papilla

1. Electrocoagulation

2. Cauterization

3. Blocks further growth

F. Hair is lifted out (epilated)

G. Stages of hair growth

1. Telogen - shedding

2. Anagen - reproduction

3. Catagen - preparing to shed (dormant)

H. Repeated treatments to remove any new hair

I. Only method of permanently removing superfluous hair

Removatron Machine

I.Removatron Machine

A. Instrument, which produces radio waves to remove, unwanted hair

permanently

1. Painless

2. No scarring of skin

3. Not harmful to body

a. Radio waves

b. Frequency moves up and down

4. Approved by the Federal Communications for hair removal

B. How it works

1. 27 million waves per second through tweezers to hair

2. Moist papilla attracts radio waves

3. Individual hair is held twenty-two (22) seconds and removed

4. Radio frequency and moist papilla create heat process which dehydrates

the hair

C. Treatments

1. Until papilla is completely dehydrated hair will continue to grow

2. First - 70% new hair to grow through [remember 3 stages]

3. Important to remove hair in the Anagen stage

4. Hair to be removed must be at least 1/8"

5. Papilla usually destroyed within a year

II.Reminders

2. Too short

C. Skill of operator

D. Method used

IV.Areas never to be treated

A. Nostrils

B. Darker hair lower the energy (3 seconds)

C. Adjust and fine tune as needed

VI.Procedure

A. Stretch area to be treated

B. Bring tweezers in at an angle (45 degrees)

C. Grasp hair with tweezers (goose bump appearance)

D. Put foot on pedal

E. Hold till timer clicks 22 seconds

F. Remove foot from pedal

G. Put tip of tweezers on surface of skin (use light pressure)

H. Release pressure of tweezers

I. Push down slightly and slide very, very slowly in direction hair grows and

remove

J. Keep a progress and record card

VII.Misty method for hard to remove hair

A. Mist 5 - 8 minutes with vapor (steam)

B. Towel dry

C. Remove hair as above

CAUTION:Make sure foot is removed from pedal before instrument touches skin

for hair removal!

Electrolysis Safety

1. Hands, implements and the area to be treated must be very carefully sanitized.

2. In galvanic electrolysis, needles are connected to the negative pole and the

indifferent electrode to the positive pole.

3. Never remove hair from areas where the skin shows signs of eruption, abrasion, or

inflammation.

4. Do not remove hairs from warts or moles.

5. Never use force when inserting needles.

6. Do not treat hairs that are too close together. Work checkerboard fashion. Needles

placed too close together may result in pitting.

7. Do not treat diabetics without a doctor's written permission.

8. Do not treat children.

9. Instruct the client on how to care for the treated skin after treatment.

10. When using the multiple needle method for hair removal place sunglasses over the

client's eyes.

11. Do not permit the metal part of the needle holder to touch the skin.

12. Do not fail to insert the needle with the directional slant of the hair follicle.

13. When removing the needle, lift it out gently.

14. Do not use the current strong enough to make the client uncomfortable.

15. Do not fail to watch needle carefully for the formation of hydrogen gas bubbles.

16. Do not fail to time the needle according to fine or coarse hair removal.

17. Do not damage the skin by using excessive current or by permitting needle to remain

in follicle too long.

18. Do not use pressure when inserting needle. Gently slide it into the opening of the

follicle.

Temporary Hair Removal Safety

1. To prevent burns, test temperature of heated wax before applying it to the client's

eyebrows.

2. Be careful to avoid letting wax run into eyes or over any area where it is not wanted.

3. Do not use wax depilatory under arms, nor over any warts, moles, abrasions, or any

irritated or inflamed areas.

4. To reduce the possibility of irritation when shaving, apply a shaving cream prior to

shaving off hair.

5. When using an electric razor, apply a pre-shaving lotion.

6. When using chemical depilatories it is advisable to give a skin test to determine if the

client is sensitive to the action of this type of depilatory.
