Senior Network Officer

Overall Job Purpose:

Assist the ICT Manager in ensuring the efficient operation of IT service. This includes implementation, development and configuration of new and existing network, hardware, software and communication links. To maintain a culture based upon excellent customer service values and be a ‘change agent’ to encourage a Council wide adoption of Technology programme and strategies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  Install, configure and provide support of servers, PCs and other hardware.

2.  Install, configure and provide support and development of operating systems and applications to support the Councils key work programmes and objectives.

3.  Manage the implementation of specific IT projects.

4.  Responsible for maintaining and upgrading the Councils virtual server infrastructure, storage area network and fibre fabric.

5.  Responsible for maintaining and upgrading of the Councils firewalls and internal network.

6.  Responsible for maintaining and configuring the LAN/WAN communication links.

7.  Responsible for maintaining the Councils security and back-up systems to support the Council’s business continuity plan.

8.  To be a ‘change agent’ and support other service areas and employees through change, encouraging and demonstrating a ‘can do’ attitude in regard to service delivery and technology provision and exploitation.

9.  To support the ICT Manager in the development and maintenance of key ICT Operations standards of service delivery, customer care, equality and risk issues in order to achieve service area and corporate service standards and targets.

10.  To be responsible for performance management against agreed targets and reporting against performance indicators. Responsible for identifying areas for service improvement and the development and implementation of solutions.

11.  To work in liaison with other service areas and with external organisations to ensure the ongoing development of the ICT Systems.

12.  To deputise for the IT Manager as required and to undertake all reasonable allied duties to the above within the context of service responsibilities.

13.  Ensure that the Health and Safety of themselves and all others affected by their work is a priority and H&S procedures and policies are strictly followed and adhered to.

NOTES

1.  The post holder will be required to contribute to training and development of self and others through participating in training events and other agreed activities that enable the transfer of knowledge.

2.  This job description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holder and identifies a level of responsibility at which the post holder will be required to work. In the interests of effective working any major tasks may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changing needs and circumstances. Such reviews and other consequential changes will be carried out in consultation with the post holder. The post holder will also be required to carry out other such duties as may be determined from time to time to be within the general scope of the post. The post holder will be required to work overtime during peak periods or as required.
