11. CULTURAL HERITAGE

Indigenous involvement during development of project applications, and sometimes in subsequent project activity, is an essential aspect of this funding program.

As part of this application, you are required to consult with the local indigenous community about your proposal if you are undertaking on-ground works. Greg Edwards, the Indigenous Cultural Heritage Protection Officer at the Corangamite CMA, is available to discuss with you, and then the appropriate indigenous contacts, about whether your proposed works will require an indigenous survey. If you know where your sites are located, please consult Greg before submitting this application. If necessary, Cultural Heritage Officers will then survey the proposed project area for culturally significant sites or artefacts, and if the site is deemed culturally significant, an indigenous monitor may be required to supervise some of the on-ground works. If this is the case, please provide a costing in your proposed budget.

As part of the Service Agreement for this grant, successful on-ground projects will gain access to funding only after consultation with one of the local indigenous communities.

Greg Edwards can be contacted on (03) 5232 9143 or 0438 364 245, or via email on . Direct contacts for each of the region’s indigenous communities are also provided below.
