About CoolTan Arts: We aim to promote positive mental health/well-being, bringing about a change in how participants perceive themselves, enabling people to gain greater focus and to re-establish their relationship with society. CoolTan Arts is an organisation dedicated to the de-stigmatisation of mental health by the engagement of people with mental distress working, volunteering and contributing to the public environment though the arts. We aim to achieve this through quality arts education, well-being and support services including self Advocacy.
Job Purpose: Leading public walks within the Bermondsey Square locality in Southwark along pre-designed routes, you will lead 1 x 2 hour (approx) walk per month over 12 months with the support of volunteer walk leaders. In addition to this you will be meeting with volunteers to plan and research the walks 2 hours a week and a minimum of 3 hours trialling walks each month. You will promote the walks with the support of the project coordinator and assistant. In addition to this your aims
You will be responsible for the smooth running of the walks, registering walkers at the start of the walks, trouble shooting and dealing with any problems on the walks, making sure walks are welcoming, friendly, enjoyable and safe.
The post holder will be expected to be flexible and take on tasks in line with other relevant duties connected with the smooth running of the project.
Ideal Candidate: Someone who is self-motivated and an independent worker. You will have good communication skills, be confident speaking in public and be able to communicate appropriately with a diverse range of people. You will be a trained walk leader who is happy to work unsupervised, working safely using your own initiative to troubleshoot during walks. A good sense of humour and personal and emotional resilience is essential, as well as enthusiasm and commitment. You will also need to be a team player, outgoing and able to effectively communicate CoolTan’s understanding of the vital relationship between the creative arts and mental health.

Tasks and Responsibilities
•Walking health walk routes beforehand (“recce-ing”) to make sure you know them.
•Welcoming walkers to the walks, particularly new walkers.
•Giving a brief talk before the walk to make sure everyone is prepared.
•Making sure paperwork like registration forms and registers are completed.
•Leading and managing walks, usually jointly with volunteer walk leaders (including “back marking or “middle marking” as well as leading at the front).
•Making sure walks are welcoming, friendly, enjoyable and safe, following our best practice guidelines and the requirements of your scheme.
•Trouble shooting and dealing with problems on walks, with the support of your scheme coordinator.
•Promoting walks, with the support of your scheme coordinator.
•Outreach; building strong networks and partnerships with other local agencies.
•Providing basic information about how to keep active.
•Attending occasional walk leaders’ meetings and refresher training.
•Staying in touch with the latest news and guidance from your scheme and Walking for Health.
