Universal Expectation: Be Safe (primary)

Name of the Skill/Setting: Classroom – Dismissal

Purpose of the lesson/Why it’s important:
·  To keep a safe and orderly classroom.
·  To prepare for dismissal quickly so everyone is ready on time.
Teaching Examples:
Review the procedure:
·  Sit quietly at table until your table is called on.
·  Walk to the coat room to put on your things (coats, book bags, etc.)
·  Walk quietly to your place in line.
·  Stand arms distance away from the next person in line.
·  Wait quietly until everyone is in line
Have students repeat the procedure.
Ask students why it’s important to do various steps in the procedure.
Kid Activities/Role-Plays:
One table models the dismissal procedure. Observers state what they did correctly.
Teacher models, but makes mistakes. Students correct her.
The whole class models. After each table goes through the dismissal procedure, the class gives feedback. May rate on a rubric of 1 – 4.
Follow-Up Reinforcement Activities:
·  Townsend Bucks for students following procedure.
·  Students rate themselves on how they did.
·  Re-practice as needed.
