The Charity:
MicroLoan Foundation helps some of the poorest women in the world feed their families, send their children to school and pay for life saving medicines. We are a very different kind of charity, offering hope, not handouts. By providing small loans (Average £60) and ongoing business training and support, MicroLoan empowers women in rural Malawi and Zambia to set up self-sustainable businesses. The profits from these businesses enable the women to work themselves and their families out of poverty. The charity has significant plans for growth in both existing and new countries.
MicroLoan has pioneered an innovative and sustainable microfinance model suited to remote rural areas and for people most in need in the community. The organisation enables women to work their way out of poverty by providing opportunities to develop lifelong skills, access vital financial services and establish sustainable small businesses. Crucially, MicroLoan works at the grassroots, with people who are usually ignored by other organisations in this sector because of their needs or location.
Role Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Marketing,the role is multifaceted withresponsibility for managing a wide variety of income streamsincluding;events & challenges, individuals, high net worth’s, corporate and community. The post-holder will contribute to strategy and supporter communications.
With the recent appointment of the charities first Director of Fundraising and Marketing, an ambitious growth strategy is being introduced. This role’s responsibilitieswill grow and, over five years will require an expansion of the team and the delivery ofa significant uplift in income.
Responsibilities include:
- Alongside the Director of Fundraising and Marketing agreeing annual income and expenditure budgets. Reporting on activity and performance against targetsand working with the Director of F&M to develop strategies to maximise on income. To input into the five year growth strategy and to recruit and manage appropriate talent to achieve the targets and milestones set therein.
- Corporates: Supporting the Corporate Fundraising Officer to achieve their income target and to work with them to devise a strategy that will innovate and see significant growth in this area.
- Events and Challenges: Creating and deliveringMicroLoan Foundation ‘owned’ eventsand challenges, including developing business plans and P&L forecasts. Managing the charities relationships with externally planned events and challenges such as marathons, bike rides, triathlons etc.
- High Net Worth’s: Assist the Director of F&M in the building ofstrong relationships to elicit donations,and to plan cultivation events and networking opportunities as appropriate.
- Individuals: To ensure the highest standard of supporter relationships management. To develop a business plan and work with agencies to devise and deliver direct marketing campaigns to recruit committed giving.
- To work with the Marketing Manager to produce the charities 6 weekly online newsletters, including sourcing of relevant information.
- Working with and locating relevant interns or volunteers to support fundraising.
Person Specification
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- A good all round understanding of fundraising principles with two or more yearshands-on experience in 2 or more of the above disciplines.
- Experience of (or the desire to learn) budget planning, forecasting and reporting
- Experience of managing a team
- Creative, problem solving skills and the desire to develop professionally
- Clear demonstration of having shown initiative and having managed and led projects to a successful conclusion
- You will be enthusiastic, creative and highly organised and used to working across a variety of projects.
- Have strong business development skills and sound commercial judgement
- An ability to relate to and work with people at all levels
