Club Name / Description (New clubs only)Art Club / The purpose of the CMS Art Club is to allow for continued development artistic skills of dedicated students in the discipline of visual arts, and prepare students for advanced opportunities in high school and beyond.
The goals of the CMS Art Club are aligned with the National Junior Art Honor Society. Art club memberswill haveopportunities to exhibit artwork, submit artwork for contests, and be recognized for their accomplishments in visual arts. Additionally, studentswill create a portfolio of work during the school year which can be submittedfor middle schoolHonors Art in the spring.
Chess Club / Play chess? Want to learn? Whether you are a master or just learning the moves, check out Chess Club. The goal is to learn and to have fun. Play pick-up games at our weekly meetings. Individual or simultaneous. Untimed or speed. Maybe a bit of Chinese chess, shogi, or bug house, too. Compete in tournaments. We’ve got boards, pieces and clocks. Or bring your own. It’s your move!
BETA / Once you become a member, you will be given the opportunity to attend meetings, participate in fund raising and service projects, and possibly attend the convention. All cannot attend the convention; remember we take the members with the highest service points. Points are accumulated on an individual and group basis.
Student Council / Middle School Student Council provides leadership opportunities for interested students. StudentCouncil members represent middle school students and promote the core values represented here at CMS. Members respond to student issues and create student activities that promoteenthusiasm and school spirit, building a community where each member and their constituentsare valued and respected. Student Council members work with students, faculty, staff, parents,and administrators to make things happen in a timely manner.
National Junior Honor Society / The National Junior Honor Society is an organization for middle school students that recognizes and encourages scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. The Conyers Middle SchoolChapter chooses service projects at the beginning of each year. The members plan and carry out activities related to these projects throughout the school year.
Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Explorers Club / The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program is set up as an introduction to various phases of law enforcement. It is sponsored by the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and chartered annually through the Explorer/ Learning Division of the Boy Scouts of America. The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program is a non-profit organization.
In order to be eligible you must be between the ages of 14-20 years of age, and have an interest in Law Enforcement. Explorers participate in Community Service
Spanish Club / The main objective of the club is to provide the opportunity for members 6th through 8th to speak Spanish and to increase their knowledge
and awareness of the Spanish-speaking world.The Spanish Club allows its members to learn more about the Hispanic culture and Spanish language, get students involved in Spanish activities, and have fun.The diversity of the club events is to be both fun and educational while encouraging its members to not only learn the Spanish language but also the Hispanic culture.
Video and Audio Production Crew / Grade 6-8 grade students have the opportunity to work with staff to produce a morning news program. Students can become broadcasters or work behind the scenes with sound mixers, video boards and cameras. We also help students who are interested in the multimedia field, learn more about the dynamics of media: writing, producing, editing and directing in studio broadcasting.
Yearbook / Yearbook Club is a fun club for 8th grade students who like photography, working on the computer, and layout design. Yearbook membershave an importantjob for the schoolin publishingand selling a product thatthey are responsible for creating.
Ladies of Distinction / This club will serve girls in 6-8
- Objective: To assist adolescents in the foundational skills needed for them to develop and grow into successful young ladies.Rationale: In order to develop strong social skills, a solid foundation in good manners and proper etiquette is key. It is important for students to learn how to get along positively with other as well as show respect when they interact.
Men Of Distinction / This club will serve boys in 6-8
- Objective: To assist adolescents in the foundational skills needed for them to develop and grow into successful young men.
INTERACT / Through our connecting with the Rotary Clubs, Interact gives students ages 12-18 the chance to make a real difference while having fun. Every Interact club carries out two service projects a year: one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.Clubs meet at least twice a month and are sponsored by their local Rotary club.
Principal’s Reading Club / The Principal’s Book Club was created to encourage and foster a love of reading for pleasure in our students.Students are asked to read a book and complete a reading response form. All students who complete and submit a reading response form are invited to attend the Principal's Book of the Month Luncheon. During theluncheon students will eat lunch with our Principal and discuss their books. The Principal's Book of the Monthluncheon occurs the last Friday of each month and the forms, which can be picked up in the media center, are due the Wednesday before.
TSA/Robotics Club / The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a nationalorganization of students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Open to students enrolled in or who have completed technology education courses, TSA’s membership includes over 233,000 middle and high school students in approximately 2,000 schools spanning 49 states. TSA is supported by educators, parents and business leaders who believe in the need for a technologically literate society. Members learn through exciting competitive events, leadership opportunities and much more. The diversity of activities makes TSA a positive experience for every student. From engineers to business managers, our alumni credit TSA with a positive influence on their lives.
Odyssey of the Mind / The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students to learn creative problem-solving methods while having fun in the process. For more than twenty five years, this unique program has helped teachers generate excitement in their students. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem-solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems -- great and small -- for a lifetime. The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests. Students learn how to identify challenges and to think creatively to solve those problems. They are free to express their ideas and suggestions without fear of criticism. The creative problem-solving process rewards thinking "outside of the box." While conventional thinking has an important place in a well-rounded education, students need to learn how to think creatively and productively
Civil Air Patrol / CAP offers schools an exciting form of character education that uses the students’ enthusiasm for aviation, space, and technology as a motivator. Conyers Middle schools find that the challenge of cadet life provides the structure early adolescents need. A middle school CAP squadron can be a great complement to a high school JROTC program.
Top Dog Ambassadors / Student leadership and peer mentoring club for males and females.
At our school our behavioral support program is called Top Dog. Since our mascot is a bulldog we use this theme to support our social and academic expectations. We believe in being PAWsitive. We believe in the PAW approach, which is Positive Actions Win, and hope to demonstrate this in all we do!
Six Pillars to Success / This club is for sixth graders only.The Six Pillars of Character is a framework for teaching good character and is composed of six ethical values (characteristics) everyone can agree upon: Trustworthiness; Respect; Responsibility; Fairness; Caring; and Citizenship. Each of the six character traits are used within our CHARACTER COUNTS! Program with 6th grade boys to help instill a positive learning environment for students and a “culture of kindness” making schools a safe environment for students to learn. The Six Pillars of Character values are not political, religious or culturally biased.
