General circumstances

Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, SSAI, coordinates a program in Perioperative Medicine and Management (PoMM) 2017-2019. All participants of the SSAI program have to be members of the SSAI. The course language is English.

The Course/training period is 2 years and consists of:

• Five SSAI courses organised within each of the Scandinavian countries

• Literature review

•Patient flow analysis

•Implementation project

• Study visits (optional)

• Portfolio (continuous assessment)

During the program, the total time away from clinical work for the program will be ten weeks (50 days). Four of these weeks will be for the literature review, patient flow analysis andmanagement project. One week (five days) is for clinical study visits.The remaining five weeks are for the week-long courses in the Scandinavian countries.

The portfolio will be created continuously during the two years. The results of the ongoing work are to be presented at course-weeks and handed over to the steering committee for evaluation.

During the program the home department is responsible forallowing time off from clinical workfor program activities.

Deviations from this contract must be approved by the national representative of the SSAI steering committee for PoMM.

Responsibilities of SSAI

• SSAI will set up a Steering Committee with one member from each Nordic country for the program. This committee will design, upgrade and coordinate the program, choose between applications and evaluate participants during and at the end of the course. Also, help in solving practical problems that may arise during the program.

• SSAI will through the PoMM steering committee organize five mandatory course weeks, each of five days duration during the two year program.

• Sponsoring may be used in the program for e.g., support of expenses of the speakers, for evening dinners and education materials. However, the sponsor will not have any influence on the topics, the selection of speakers and will not be allowed to give any information about their products or other activities at the courses or in connection with the courses.

Responsibilities of the home department

• The home department will employ the trainee in an appropriate position during the 2 years of the training programme.

• The home department will appoint a personal mentor for the participant during the program that will have regular contact with the participant and follow his/her progress during the program. The mentor has to assess and approve the portfolio at the end of the program.

• The home department will appoint appropriate supervisor/s for different assignments (the mentor can be one of these).

• The home department will provide opportunity and support to perform assignments.

• The home department agrees upon suggested assignments regarding literature review, patient pathwayanalysis and implementation project in the application for the program.

• The home department will approve of leave from clinical work to attend courses and perform assignments, a minimum of ten weeks (50 days).

• The home department will cover all expenses for the complete SSAI program in Perioperative Medicine and Management (PoMM) 2017-2019 (including travelling, accommodation and a fee for each course).

Responsibilities of the trainee

• During the 2 years of training the trainee will actively participate in the course and perform assignments, present results and complete the portfolio as described in the program curriculum. Also the trainee will have regular meetings with their mentor and supervisors.

• The trainee will need to update email address to course secretary becauseemail will be used.

• Attendance to courses is mandatory. In case of illness or other unforeseeable hinders,20% absence may be accepted after contact with the steering committee.

Diploma and certification

During the program several assessment methods will be used to evaluate performance. A personal logbook/portfolio will serve as documentation for the achievements and progress. The trainee must at the end of the program have finished a literature review, patient pathway analysis, implementation project andstudy visits (optional).The personal portfolio has to be approved by the mentor and all of the above has to be handed over to the steering committee at certain timeframes.The trainee will receive a diploma when the report is accepted and the final course evaluation form has been sent in.

The total program fee for the SSAI training program on Perioperative Medicine and Management will be 10000 EUR not including travel expenses and accommodation.

All costs, including program fee, travel expenses and accommodationare to be covered by the home department. Other arrangements concerning finances have to be approved by the steering committee in advance.

Payment will be divided into three parts.

Before the first course-week 2500 EUR is due. Additional 5000 EUR is due before the second course-week. Additional 2500 EUR is due before the fourth course-week.

The home department should send a confirmation to the Steering committee secretariat that the program fee has been paid no later than 30 days before the start of each course-week, as mentioned above (bank transfer account number or another kind of confirmation). If payment is not received in due time, the participant will not be welcomed to attend the course.

During the five days of study visits any extra expenses for travel and accommodation will be covered by the home department.

We hereby agree on the above written agreement.

Final acceptance to the program will be decided after the application deadline at the discretion of the steering committee. If the participant is not admitted at this time, this agreement is void.

The agreement cannot be cancelled after the participant has been accepted and the full payment for the course will be charged even if the participant chooses to leave the program. If a participant is unable to attend the course due to medical or personal unforeseeable reasons the steering committee will be open to discuss alternative solutions. However since expenses for the program are paid in advance, release from agreement or return of course fee will not be accepted.
