Job Purpose

The main focus of this position will be to assist in the implementation of the fundraising strategy for voluntary income and diversify the unrestricted and individual donations by range of activities including campaigns, events, appeals, community fundraising and other cooperate partners.The post holder will work collaboratively with the Fundraising team and have some responsibility for the management of volunteers and groups of volunteer fundraisers.

The key functions of this post are:

  • Assist in the implementation and monitoringof the fundraising strategy for voluntary income for Tameside Oldham and Glossop Mind
  • Execute fundraising plans for all forms of voluntary giving income streams
  • Remain attentive to the developments in the voluntary giving sectorthat might provide opportunities for developing and diversifying unrestricted income.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with individuals and organisations to support voluntary giving, using a range of appropriate communication tools including formal written reports, newsletters, social media channels, personal communication and/or face-to-face meetings. Record all activity on CIVI CRM database.
  • Take the leadon some agreed relationships related to voluntaryincome with corporate, individual, and other partners contributing to voluntary income streams.
  • Coordinate campaigns, events, appeals, community fundraising and other fundraising activities as directed by the Fundraising Manager
  • Ensure all fundraising activities conform to regulation, legal requirement, best practice, organisational policy, branding, communications and financial practice.
  • Undertake the administration of the portfolio of websites and social media through which online voluntary giving to Tameside Oldham and Glossop Mind is possible (e.g. “The Big Give”, “Mission Fish”, “JustGiving”and “easyfundraising” etc.).
  • Assist with the production of the Supporters’ Newsletter and other key publicity materials targeting individuals, groups and organisations.
  • Ensure the systems for keeping effective records of bids, applications, reports, contracts and communications with funding partners are kept up to date for the funding sources, activities and contracts for which you have lead responsibility.
  • Support the volunteers and volunteer fundraisers recruited to assist with fundraising activity
  • Represent the organisation at external events/meetings with supporters
  • Keep the fundraising section of our website up to date.
  • Travel within other parts of the UK as required

General

  • Promote the concepts of wellbeing, including the 5 ways to wellbeing (connect, be active, take notice, keep learning, give), early intervention and community engagement ensuring these underpin the direction of organisation’s activities.
  • Assist in using and completing any office and team related information recording system
  • Assist in information gathering, monitoring and evaluating processes.
  • Assist in undertaking talks and presentations, attend events and open days, produce publicity materials and maintain the website.
  • Assist in networking with other agencies to forge joined up and effective partnership work that is mutually beneficial
  • Take part in relevant promotional national events for the organisation, e.g. Time to Change, World Mental Health Day, Mind Week, etc.
  • Assist in meeting and maintaining organisational quality standards and awards.
  • Work closely with staff and volunteers across the organisation.
  • Participate in regular team meetings as well as away days.
  • Assist with recruitment of paid staff and volunteers.
  • Assist in providing support to volunteers.
  • Ensure at all times duties are carried out within both policy and procedure and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure the organisation is a safe environment and that Health and Safety legislation and local policy is adhered to.
  • Ensure services within the organisation reflect a commitment to Equality and Diversity.
  • Ensure that any near misses, incidents and disputes are dealt with promptly, fairly and recorded. For any serious or on-going cases, the matter is brought to the attention of management, director or executive committee
  • Work as part of the team including helping to cover across the organisation’s duties, within training and experience limitations.
  • Participate in supervision and annual appraisal with the relevant manager and attend training as required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by relevant manager.

Experience

  • Experience of successful fundraising via at least one of the following sources: community fundraising, the corporate world, campaigns and appeals, charity events, direct marketing,charitable trusts and foundations(E)
  • A demonstrable track record of excellent customer/supporter care (E)
  • Experience of working with volunteers(E)
  • Experience of managing projects on your own from start to finish(E)
  • Educated to A level and/or equivalent level of work experience
  • Certificate in Fundraising

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the fundraising environment and regulatory framework as it relates to a voluntary sector provider.
  • Knowledge of the range of potential unrestricted funding sources which may support the work of an organisation which gains the majority of its revenue via public sector contracting.
  • Knowledge of a range of techniques and disciplines which support the cost-effective generation of income for a charitable organisation.
  • Knowledge of internal fundraising databases and in particular knowledge of CIVI CRM desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health issues.

Abilities/Skills

  • The ability to implement specific fundraising appeals, campaigns and events.
  • Competent in the use of a range of IT applications which support fundraising activity.
  • Ability to draft, edit and proof-read a range of documents and written materials produced in support of fundraising.
  • Excellent presentation skills in a wide range of formats, and to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to operate within a target driven approach which is informed and guided by principles of performance management and is focussed on the achievement of outcomes and results.

  • An aptitude for learning new skills and a willingness to undertake continuous professional development.
  • An ability to embrace and promote the organisation’s equality and diversity strategy within all activity.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the UK as required by the demands of the post and the needs of the organisation (full driving licence with access to car is desirable), including the need to work outside normal office hours when required.
  • Ability to understand financial budgets, operate within agreed financial parameters and ensure all expenditure is authorised and appropriately controlled.
  • Willingness to undertake other work tasks which are reasonably requested by the line manager and are commensurate with the post-holder’s skill and competence level.
