ContiTech Fluid Technology Handles All Truck Media Flows

·  Locally manufactured lines for the NAFTA market

·  High-temperature oil hoses for turbochargers

·  Optimized SCR and air-conditioning lines

Louisville, Kentucky, March 2014. ContiTech Fluid Technology manufactures lines for all truck media flows for the NAFTA region locally. The spectrum ranges from high-temperature oil hoses to fuel supply lines and on to optimized air-conditioning systems.

For instance, ContiTech Fluid Technology has developed a new generation of high-temperature oil hoses for turbochargers. “These are enabling us to venture into 250°C temperature territory,” states Product Developer Klaus Brühne emphatically. In addition to this, the hose design features numerous advantages over the Teflon corrugated tubing and flat hoses used to date.

They have significantly greater flexibility and thus enable a tight bending radius, which means they fit the trend towards downsizing and the associated smaller space requirements. Furthermore, they are lighter and therefore permit additional weight savings. This effect is further amplified by a lighter integration system, as a result of which the hose can also be combined with aluminum tubes without difficulty.

The new sheathed hoses are used on the feed and return sides of the turbocharger. They can withstand high temperatures without ill effect using a braided sheath made of a plastic exhibiting high temperature and chemical resistance which encloses the FKM rubber inner lining and features excellent flexibility. The hoses can be fitted with very tight bending radii. They can withstand operating pressures of up to 15 bar and can also be manufactured using a molding process.

The hose is part of a kit from which the customer can select the right product for the particular application, resulting in cost benefits. The new product can be used for lubricating turbochargers and for other applications.

All lines from a single source

The current generation of heatable hose assembly modules from ContiTech Fluid Technology for SCR exhaust gas scrubbing is manufactured for the North American market in Mexico where ContiTech produces all its lines locally for the truck sector in the NAFTA region. The SCR lines have heated quick connectors with optimized contacts which guarantee complete defrosting of the medium including the connector area.

Like ContiTech’s heavy-duty charge-air hoses and lines, the characteristic feature of the fuel lines for high-performance truck engines is their ability to withstand extreme temperatures and pressures. ContiTech has also upgraded the Somersworth site to become its Competence Center for Plastics where, for example, polyamide lines and blow-molded parts are produced. In addition, ContiTech Fluid Technology is exhibiting connector system and oil hydraulics products.

The new ECO AC refrigerant circuit system enables significant improvements in air-conditioning systems for commercial vehicles. This extends from improving the performance of the air-conditioning system to cutting consumption as a result of lower pressure losses and on to design improvements. The use of the internal heat exchanger (IHE) developed by ContiTech in itself promises some five percent greater efficiency. In addition to this line-integrated solution, ContiTech has also developed a compact, inexpensive alternative to the IHE in the form of the Conti Eco Compact XR.

Don’t be fooled by the outside: even if the new oil hose looks like a conventional fuel line, inside it’s full of the latest in high-tech materials.
