Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Options

Use this chart to assist you as you complete the Activity Proposal Form for maximum credit, criteria and verification.

Option / CEU Value / Maximum CEU / Criteria / Verification
National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification / Range of 6-17 CEUs for candidates completing the process but not getting the NBPTS certificate / 18 CEUs for NBPTS Certificate / Must be in the subject area of the individual’s assignment. Certification must be completed or participation as a candidate must be verified by the expiration date of the license. / Valid copy of the National Certificate or documentation for candidate not completing the certificate.
Master Teacher / 6 CEUs if approved / Valid copy of Master Teacher certificate
Publication of Original Work-e.g. book, journal article, software, research, curriculum unit / Variable, depending on the product / 6 CEUs / Production of tangible product that enhances teaching and learning / Copy of the book, article, software package, research report, curriculum, and a reflection of the learning while engaged in the process.
Grant Writing / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 6-Bonus for Grant Approval / Copy of Grant Proposal / Copy of grant proposal, documentation of clock hours for planning, development and reflection on the learning while engaged in the process.
Professional Educational Organization / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 3 CEUs / Must serve on a formal governance committee representing a national, state or local educational organization or agency. Must be in a position to contribute to the educational profession or add to the body of knowledge in a specific field. / Documentation of hours served and verified by the president or chair of the committee.
Internship/Fellowship / Variable, depending on the activity / 6 CEUs / Must be with an accredited professional organization. Must be completed or participation verified by the expiration date of the license. Production of a tangible product which enhances teaching or learning.
Peer Review and Assistanc / 1 clock = 0.1 CEU / 4 CEUs (Both participants are eligible.) / Each session must include pre-observation discussion, observation, and follow-up discussion / Reflective journal on all segments of the observation process and resulting actions. Documentation of all contact hours.
Mentoring /Resident Educators / 1 clock = 0.1 CEU / 3 CEUs (Both participants are eligible.) / Participation in a formal mentoring program, either through GEVSD or college/university. / Must include a statement of authorization from a supervisor and reflective journal documentation the learning process and contact hours.
Cooperating Teacher for Student Teacher / 1 CEU per Quarter
1.5 CEU per Semester / 6 / Must be a part of a formal college program. / Formal documentation of participation from the college and reflective journal documenting the learning process and contact hours.
Cooperating Teacher for Field Experience / 1 clock hour = .01 CEU / 3 CEUs / Must be part of a formal college program. / Formal documentation of participation from the college and reflective journal documenting the learning process and contact hours.
Curriculum Development Unit/Revision / 1 CEU per unit developed / 3 CEUs / Production of tangible product that enhances teaching and learning / Copy of curriculum unit with reference to current standards or course of study.
Course of Study Development/Revision / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 4 CEUs / Must serve on a formal committee organized by GEVSD / Copy of the final document and reflection on the learning while engaged in the process.
School Improvement Initiatives / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 6 CEUs / Must serve on a formal committee organized by GEVSD / Copy of the product, documentation of hours involved and reflection on the learning while engaged in the process.
Professional Learning Team/Reading Study Group / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 3 CEUs / Subject area must be related to individual’s area of specialization and assignment. / Reflective journal documenting the learning while engaged in the process, time involved and report identifying the action to be taken.
Professional Development Presenter/Presentation / 1 clock hour = 0.3 CEU / 6 CEUs / May be presented two times during a licensure cycle. / Copy of program listing the presentation, presentation notes and related handouts.
Teaching a College Course / 1 clock hour = 0.3 CEU / 6 CEUs / May be taught twice during the licensure cycle. / Course announcement listing the individual as the instructor, a course syllabus, or other verification from the institution.
Trainer of Trainers Certification- e.g. TESA, Quest, Coey / 1 clock hour = 0.3 CEU / 6 CEUs / Must be nationally recognized education program. / Copy of training announcement and syllabus, documentation of completion of training and the action plan for offering the training to others.
Independent Study/Action Research / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 6 CEUs / Research must involve the examination of current teaching and learning which results in the improvement of one’s instructional practice. / Copy of final product or a report on the findings, time involved and reflective documentation on the learning while engaged in the process.
Self-Directed Educational Research / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 6 CEUs / Project must be devoted to the enhancement of teaching and learning. / Copy of final product or report on project results, time involved, documentation of media publicity or reflective journal on the learning while engaged in the process.
Educational Travel / 1 clock hour = 0.1 CEU / 3 CEUs / Program must be related to current assignment or area of licensure. / Copy of travel program content, verification of participation, documentation of time involved and/or reflective journal on the learning while engaged in the process.
