Jag Industries

Where we help you get into debt, the smart way™

Our goal at Jag Industries is to make sure we pick the right company and plan for your needs.. even if that choice lands you knee deep in debt and just a check away from bankruptcy.

Project Summary

From this project I quickly concluded that to be money-wise in life you really got to analyze the situation before indluging the money. For example the cellphone scenario. We're all going to eventually purchase a cellular phone and we're going to have to pick a plan. To save money we're going to have to see the plan which fits us the best and hopefully saves us the most money. So being money smart is absolutely nessisary to being independent, because I'm sure most of us don't realize how much our parents calculate things before actually going through with them (i.e. mortgages, loans, etc)

Mathematical skills I applied during this project were simple algebra, solving of systems, and well..basic arithmetic (dividing numbers, multiplying etc.)

I learned that teamwork is crucial in projects of this magnitude. If I my partners didn't do their share in this project I'd have a badly made project turned in at 11:56 PM barely meeting requirements.

Scenarios Assigned:

-Jhael: 3 and 8

-Aaron: 2

-Juan: 4,6

Scenario #2: Mr. Consumer is out to purchase a cellphone so he can talk to Mrs. Consumer whenever he wants to.

Companies And Their Rates

Precision Cellular: Clear-Voice Wireless:

$49 per month $25 per month

plus $.10 per minute plus $.35 per minute

Linear Models:

(P.C.) y= 0.10x + 49

(C.V.W) y= 0.35x + 25

x = minutes

y= service cost

Calculating the Better Plan:

0.10x + 49 = 0.35x + 25 (subtract 25) →

0.10x + 24 = .35x (subtract .10x) →

24 = .25x (divide by .25) →

96 = x

Graphing:

Analysis:

Clear Voice is best if they less than 96 minutes. They will cost the same at 96 minutes, but if Mr. Consumer plans on speaking less than 96 minutes Clear Voice is the better plans. After 96 minutes though, Precision Cellular has the cheaper plan.

Money wise Mr. Consumer is going to be paying $58.60 at the break even point between the two companies (96 minutes).

Scenario #2 Graph (comparison)

(P.C.) y= 0.10x + 49

(C.V.W) y= 0.35x + 25

Scenario #3: The Consumer’s furnace is in need of some cleaning and possibly repair. We have to find the most economical servicing.

Companies And Their Rates

Alice's Appliance Repair: Al's Appliance Repair:

Service: $25 plus Service: $65 plus

$40 per hour $20 per hour

Linear Models:

(A.A.R.) y= 40x + 25 x= hours

(Al's.A.R.)y= 20x + 65 y= total cost

Calculating the Better Plan:

40x + 25 = 20x +65 (subtract 25) →

40x = 20x +40 (subtract 20x) →

20x = 40 (divide by 20) →

x= 2

Graphing:

Analysis:

The break even point between the two repairmen is at 2 hours of servicing the furnace. If the duration of the repair is longer than 2 hours, then its more economical to go have Al repair the furnace. Otherwise if you expect the repair to be shorter than 2 hours it would be more economical to have Alice repair the furnace.

The amount of money you would be spending at the break even (2 hours of repair) is $105.

Scenario:

If Mr. & Mrs. Consumer think that the furnace is in need of some heavy duty repair then I recommend going to Al since this is going to be a long job. If they think their furnace might only need some quick fixes and little maintanence it would be more economical to call up Alice.

Scenario #3 Graph (comparison)

(A.A.R.) y= 40x + 25

(Al's.A.R.)y= 20x + 65

x= hours y= total cost

Scenario #4: Mr. & Mrs. Consumer are considering taking Mr. C's mother and a few of her friends on a chartered boat ride for her 90th birthday. They are looking for the most economical choice.

Companies And Their Rates

Wally's Charter Boats: Paco's Charter Boats:

Boat Rental: $230 Boat Rental: $50

Charge Per Person: $30 Charge Per Person: $60

Linear Models:

(W.C.B.) y= 30x + 230 x= number of people

(P.C.B.) y= 60x + 50 y= total cost

Calculating the Better Plan:

done by graphing

Analysis:

Mr. & Mrs. Consumer, at the rates being charged by Wally's Charter Boats and Paco's Charter Boats, you will find Paco's Charter Boats to be cheaper if you bring less than 6 people. After 6 people however, Wally's Charter Boats becomes the more cost effective. Both charge the same if you take 6 people however.

Scenario #4 Graph (comparison)

(W.C.B.) y= 30x + 230 x= number of people

(P.C.B.) y= 60x + 50 y= total cost

Scenario #6: Mr. & Mrs. Consumer may rent a reception hall and invite the whole family and some friends to celebrate Mr. C's mother's 90th birthday. They are looking for the most economical choice.

Companies And Their Rates

The Party Room: The Celebration Zone:

Hall Rental: $651 Hall Rental: $975

Food & Drink: $32 per person Food & Drink: $20 per person

Linear Models:

(T.P.R.) y= 32x + 651 x= number of people

(T.C.Z.) y= 20x + 975 y= total cost

Calculating the Better Plan:

done by graphing

Analysis:

Mr. & Mrs. Consumer, if you plan to invite less than 27 people, the better of the two would be The Party Room. Any more than 27 people will make the deal offered by The Celebration Zone the better of the two.

Scenario #6 Graph (comparison)

(T.P.R.) y= 32x + 651 x= number of people

(T.C.Z.) y= 20x + 975 y= total cost

Scenario #8: Mr. & Mrs. Consumer are trying to decide on an Internet service provider. They want the most economical service.

Companies And Their Rates

Web Riders: World Connections:

$16 Per Month $30 Per Month

plus $ 6 Per Hour plus $4 Per hour

Linear Models:

(W.R.) y= 6x + 16 x= hours of use

(W.C.) y= 4x + 30 y= monthly price

Calculating the Better Plan:

6x + 16 = 4x + 30 (subtract 16) →

6x = 4x + 14 (subtract 4x) →

2x = 14 (divide by 2) →

x = 7

Graphing:

Analysis:

After 7 hours of internet use the monthly price of each company is the same. For total monthly use of less than 7 hours a month, its cheaper with Web Riders. For more than 7 hours a month, its cheaper with World Connections.

At 7 hours of internet use (the break even) you'd be spending $58.

Scenario:

Let's say Mr. & Mrs. Consumer are avid Youtubers and bloggers and spend tens of hours on the computer, then their choice should be World Connections since it would be cheaper.

If they're more of a I just check the email and get off type of person the the more economical choice would be Web Riders.

Scenario #8 Graph (comparison)

(W.R.) y= 6x + 16 x= hours of use

(W.C.) y= 4x + 30 y= monthly price
