Draft BREEAM International New Construction 2016

Introduction

This paper provides an overview of the draft BREEAM International New Construction 2016 scheme, including the timeline for launch and how to engage in the stakeholder consultation process for the scheme.

The paper also includes a summary of the technical content and the reference scheme that each issue is based upon.

BREEAM International New Construction 2016

The draft BREEAM New Construction 2016 scheme provides an updated version of BREEAM for the assessment of all new buildings around the world.

Consultation process and timeline

The public consultation on the BREEAM International New Construction scheme will last for a month from 23rd December to midnight on the 1st February 2016. During this period BRE Global welcomes all comments from across the industry on the scheme. Please send any comments you have to us in the spreadsheet provided and email it to marking your subject ‘Comments on Draft BREEAM International NC 2016’.

The following highlights the timetable for the consultation process and the on-going publication and go-live of the BREEAM International Refurbishment and Fit-out scheme.

Hea 04 / Thermal comfort / This issue was previously Hea 03 – Minor changes to the criteria.
Hea 05 / Acoustic Performance / Hea 05a & 05b have been combined.
Hea 06 / Accessibility / Safe Access criteria remain the same.
Inclusive and accessible design (previously part of Man 04a &b) have been incorporated. This ensure they are considered together to avoid overlap between issues.

Demolition waste targets are now included.
Wst 2 / Recycled aggregates / The 30km rule have been moved to an Exemplary level requirement.
