FIRE ALARM

RESPONSE & EVACUATION INFORMATION

*All staff and patrons MUST exit the building

* DO NOT use the elevators

*DO NOT search for people

*

Proceed to the department designated meeting place:

WEST OF LORYSTUDENTCENTER

If that location is inaccessible, proceed to the secondary meeting place:

LORYSTUDENTPLAZA

*Remain there until instructed to leave so roll call can be taken

*DO NOT re-enter the building until given the all-clear sign

FIRE & SMOKE

RESPONSE INFORMATION

Fire Alarm Information

*Outside Preservation Lab next to stairway

*In Journal Room, outside door to stairway south of entrance to

Room 210

Fire Extinguisher Locations

*Outside door to Rooms 208 and 210

*In hallway between bathrooms across from Rooms 204-206

*In Journal Room, outside door to stairway south of entrance to

Room 210

Response to Smoke or Fire

*Pull the fire alarm

*Evacuate building; Follow evacuation procedures

*DO NOT use elevators

*Proceed to designated meeting place

WEST of LORYSTUDENTCENTER

*Have someone call police at 911

Give the following information: name, location of fire in building, & whether or not people are trapped

*Have someone contact Building Proctor/RLO (491-1864)

[They may be outside the building]

EARTHQUAKE

RESPONSE INFORMATION

*Take cover under heavy furniture or crouch in an inside corner and cover your head and face

*Keep away from glass and book stacks

*DO NOT run outside or dash for exits

*DO NOT use the elevators

*Be aware that electricity may go out and/or fire alarms may sound

*Wait for tremor to subside and falling objects to come to rest

*Be aware that there may be aftershocks that may cause more damage

*If there is damage, call the Building Proctor (491-1864)

*DO NOT inspect the building!

*If leaking pipes are involved, see WATER EMERGENCY

*If possible, evacuate the building and proceed to the designated meeting location: WEST OF LORYSTUDENTCENTER

*If outside, move away from buildings, streetlights, utility wires and other tall or large structures

*Stay at least 300 feet from buildings and power lines and poles

*DO NOT re-enter the building until given the all clear

HIGH WINDS/TORNADO WARNING

RESPONSE INFORMATION

*Evacuate the Staff Lounge immediately

*Respond to the public address system

*Go to shelter area in Lower Level

*Take along flashlights just in case of power failure

*Keep away from west side glass windows

*Remain in shelter area until the all clear message is given

*Depending on any damage, call the Building Proctor (491-1864) and/or emergency at 911

WATER EMERGENCY

RESPONSE INFORMATION

Minor leaks or damage

*CallBuilding Proctor (491-1864)

*Call Access Services desk to inform them of the leak (491-1842)

*If materials are wet, call Preservation Lab (491-1826)

Running water

*If serious problem, pull the fire alarm

*Call 911 to report running water

*CallBuilding Proctor (491-1864)

*If appropriate, call Facilities Services at 491-0077 to have water shut off

*If materials are wet, call Preservation Lab (491-1826)

*Call Access Services desk to inform them of problem (491-1842)

*DO NOT enter flooded area

*DO NOT walk through moving water

*If necessary, post the affected area to keep patrons out

*Call 911

*Call Access Services desk to inform them of flooding (491-1842)

*If water surrounds the building

DO NOT go outside

DO NOT the elevators

DO NOT pull the fire alarm.

Proceed to the highest point in the building
