Scoring of Writing Skills Portion of Level 1 (AC) Certification Examination

Policy – The Writing Skills portion of the Level I (AC) certification examination shall be scored in accordance with the Constructor Certification Commission Examination Committee Writing Skills Scoring Subcommittee Operations Manual (Commission Document No. 21)

Procedures – The following procedures will be followed in grading the writing skills portion of the Level I (AC) certification examination.

  1. The Writing Skills Scoring Subcommittee (Scorers) shall meet within two weeks after the administration of the Level I (AC) Examination.
  2. In accordance with Commission Documents No. 21 and 33, the Scoring Session Leader and Scorers will participate in a training session to learn to score the responses to the writing skills Level I (AC) certification examination questions.
  3. Prior to conducting the training session, all Scorers must sign Commission Document No. 32. Following the training session all Scorers must complete Commission Document No. 37. And the Scoring Session Leader must complete Commission Document No. 56.
  4. Following the completion of the training and within the allocated time, the Scorers score the assigned questions and place their scores on Commission Document No. 34 along with other required information.
  5. To insure the reliability of the scoring process among the scorers, a random sample of 10% of the writing skills examination questions will be selected by the Scoring Session Leader and be scored by a different scorer. A reliability analysis will be conducted by the Examination Contractor and transmitted to the Chair of the Examination Committee and the Certification Manager who in turn will present the results along with any recommendations from the Examination Contractor for improvements to the Commission at its next monthly meeting.
  6. The completed and signed scoring forms are compiled by the Scoring Session Leader and sent to the Examination Contractor along with the business letters and along with any unused supplementary materials.
