Skills Programme

A skills programme is occupational-based, which upon completion, constitutes credits towards a qualification registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The Employer Company or BH SERVICES & SUPPLY identifies the unit standards specific to the needs of the company and applies to CETA for the registration of the skills programme.

Skills programmes may be conducted in phases to meet clients’ requirements.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The RPL assessment process is used to determine the level of competence of employees who are able to perform certain tasks but have no formal learning or qualification.

Learners are assessed against specific unit standards in the work environment, the level of competence is established and training needs are identified.

Legacy Training

Legacy training will be conducted on clients’ request and will be designed to suit client requirements

The content of legacy training is based on the old Civil Engineering Industry Training Board modules. The courses are not NQF aligned and are not accredited by the CETA. Most of the focus is on the practical application and less so on the theoretical knowledge component. The Construction Site Practice (CSP) is an example of a course that is in demand, but is not accredited by CETA. Learners who have successfully completed legacy training courses are issued with a BH SERVICES & SUPPLY certificate and not a CETA certificate.

Notes:

“Notional hours” are calculated according to the credits of each unit standard.
1 credit = 10 notional hours.
Notional hours represent both theoretical and practical training.
Days reflected in training programmes relate to theoretical as well as practical training.
Practical training must be carried out in the workplace under a nominated mentor.
On completion of theoretical and practical training, workplace assessments are conducted.
