Constitution of Adventist Students Association

ARTICLE I.NAME

The name of the organisation will be Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name] (ACF @ ______).

ARTICLE II.PURPOSE

In response to God's love, grace and truth, the purpose of Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]is to:

  • To build communities that honor God and nurture the spiritual lives of students on campus.
  • To engage students in the mission of the church through relational evangelism and Christ-centered student associations.
  • To empower local studentsthrough professional training and access to resources.

ARTICLE III.MEMBERSHIP

Section 1Only currently registered students, faculty and staff may be Active members in a registered student organisation. Only Active Members may vote or hold office.

Section 2Anyone interested in participating and/or learning more about Christ are welcome to join in the activities of Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]. All will be welcomed to join.

Section 3Membership is attained by signing in the membership application. The membership may cease by cancellation upon the member’s request, absence for a semester to regular meetings, or by a ¾ vote from the total number of members if the member is found to be involved in gross misconduct.

Section 4Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]will not restrict membership based upon race, colour, national origin, religion, gender, physical and mental disability, medical condition, ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation or citizenship.

ARTICLE IV.OFFICERS

Section 1The officers of Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]shall be President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Section 2These officers will constitute the Executive Committee, along with ex-officio members including:

  • The Associate Youth Director of the South Queensland Conference for Tertiary Students and Young Adults
  • A sponsor, who shall be an active member in the [insert church name]Seventh-day Adventist Church or a Seventh-day Adventist Christian who is on the faculty on campus, and selected by Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]as a whole.
  • An advisor, who shall be a Pastor of the [insert church name]Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The President shall serve as primary signatory. Any other post that is not shown in Section 1 may be established upon need by the decision of the Executive Committee.

Section 3 The duration of the officers' terms shall be from the day after the end of second semester to the end of the following second semester, encompassing two academic semesters.

Section 4 The election for the officers will be the last week of August, on the meeting day chosen by Adventist Students Association at the University of[insert university name]. Officials shall be elected by a simple majority.

Section 5 Any officer other than the President may resign when such resignation is submitted in writing to the President. The President may resign when such resignation is submitted in writing to Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]as a whole. When a vacancy occurs, an office shall be replaced by a simple majority vote of a quorum.

Section 6The President, Secretary and Treasurer shall be baptised members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and currently studying at a University.

ARTICLE V.MEETINGS

Section 1Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]shall have their regular meetings held once a week. Meetings may be suspended for a specified amount of time as voted on by Adventist Students Association at the University of [insert university name]for such reasons as vacation and holiday leave and final examination periods.

Section 2The President will call for meetings and any other emergency meetings as deemed necessary.

Section 3Quorum shall consist of 1/2 of the members of the organisation.

ARTICLE VI.CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

Any change, amendment, and addition to this Constitution will be affected by a 2/3-majority vote of the total number of members of the organisation. All amendments, additions or deletions must be filed with the Office of Student Life, [insert office of student life address].
