CONSTITUTION — NORTH RIDGEVILLE HISTORY CLUB

An academicstudent organization for North Ridgeville Middle School 6-8 students interested in further exploration of their education on history, government, politics, and important national and global issues of the day beyond the set curriculum.

ARTICLE I — NAME, PURPOSE & MISSION STATEMENT

Section 1

Name:

  • The official name of this organization will be the North Ridgeville Middle School History Club.

Section 2

Purpose:

  • To foster an understanding and appreciation for local, state and national history.
  • Develop planning, organizational, research and reflection skills.
  • Showcase student learning and experiences to the public.
  • To help students become more actively involved in their community organizations which have a historical or political purpose.
  • To cover issues of the various social studies disciplines that are not allowed by time constraints, but that students wish to learn more about.
  • Provide field trip opportunities to investigate local historical sites.
  • (i.e. COSI, the SS Mather and USS Cod in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Great Serpent Mound and other local areas such as the Cleveland Metro parks)
  • Raise money for the Social Studies Club
  • Proposed Additions

Section 3

Mission Statement:

  • The purpose of this organization is to foster interest and involvement in the major issues concerning our world throughout the past and in the present. By doing this, we hope to encourage students to stay engaged in understanding the historical, political, and social realities of the world in which they live.

ARTICLE II — ORGANIZATION ADVISORS

Section 1

  • Mr. Parsons and Ms. Mehling are the advisors for the Social Studies Club.

Section 2

  • The advisors will help plan and organize meetings, provide help in obtaining information for various activities, and help the organization’s officers coordinate the club’s activities within the school.

ARTICLE III — MEMBERSHIP

Section 1

  • Membership in the Social Studies Clubwill be open to any interested student at North Ridgeville Middle School.

Section 2

  • As an academic club, each member will be required to hold a “C” average in their academics to remain a part of the club.

Section 3

  • The Social Studies Club advisors retain the right to grant honorary membership to school and district officials, community members, and public officials in recognition of achievement and/or outstanding service in furthering the mission statement of our organization.

ARTICLE IV — OFFICERS

Section 1

Club Offices:

  • The following officers will lead the Social Studies Club: President, Secretary of the Secretary of the Students.
  • These offices will be chosen by a paper ballot at the second meeting of the school year after nominations are made and seconded.
  • NO RECOUNTS!

Section 2

Duties of Officers:

  • President — runs the meetings and works with the advisors in organizing club activities.
  • Secretary of the Students —takes attendance each meeting and relays them to the advisors, receives student ideas and concerns/serves as a liaison between the students and officers.

ARTICLE V — MEETINGS

Section 1

  • Bimonthly and afterschool meetings to be held in an advisors’ classroom.
  • Meeting times will be set by the advisors and the officers and membership will be notified by the daily announcements and on the Social Studies Club bulletin board.
  • Role will be sent around at the beginning of each meeting by the Secretary of the Students.
  • Meetings will run by the President and the advisors.
  • An agenda will be provided via the advisors to the officers and membership for each meeting.
  • Students are allowed to miss three meetings without excuse. After three unexcused absences, they will be asked to leave the group. Absences for doctor’s appointments or other pre-discussed reasons with the advisors will be excused.

ARTICLE VI — MOTTO, OFFICAL SEAL OR INSIGNIA

  • The official name of this organization will be suggested and voted upon by the 2012-2013 class of this club.

ARTICLE VII — AMENDMENTS

Section 1

  • Amendments will be proposed at meetings or in writing to the advisors. Once these amendments are seconded, they will be voted upon by the membership.
  • A vote of 2/3 of those present will be needed to pass the amendment.
