Article l - Name, Purpose, and Non-Discrimination Policy of the Organization

Section 1: Name: Human-Animal Bond Club

Section 2 - Purpose: The goal of the Human-Animal Bond Club is to promote and preserve the positive human-animal bond with the veterinary college, the Ohio State campus, and our community through education and volunteer activities.

Section 3 - Non-Discrimination Policy: This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

Article II - Membership: Qualifications and categories of membership

Member selection is open to all via payment of $10 yearly dues by October 1st of autumn semester, with the option of paying extra in order to obtain a student membership to the national organization: the American Association of Human-Animal Bond Veterinarians (AAH-ABV). Other than the first meeting of the year, only paying members of the clubs will be allowed to attend general meetings. Voting membership should be defined as limited to students currently enrolled at The Ohio State University. Others such as faculty, alumni, professionals, etc. are encouraged to become members but will be non-voting associate or honorary members. There will be no limit on membership numbers; however, there may be limits on volunteer opportunities based on point assignments or capacity limitations as set by the organization. Members will be awarded one point for paying club dues, one point for attending a general meeting, and two points for attending a journal meeting. Obtaining points will allow members more opportunities to participate in volunteer events.

Article III - Organization Leadership: Titles, terms of office, type of selection, and duties of the leaders

New officers are selected each March by a general vote of all members. Officers must win elections by a majority vote. Each officer will hold the term for the year, until the next elections in the following March. If desired, current officers may rerun for their same position or for a new position. The titles and duties are as follows:

President: Responsible for organizing monthly officer meetings, contacting potential speakers, organizing four general meetings per semester, reserving rooms for meetings, sending thank-you notes to the speakers, and attending the required yearly president training.

Vice President: Responsible for contacting local organizations, organizing two volunteer work activities per semester, sending thank-you cards to these organizations, and assisting the president with organizing four general meetings per semester.

Secretary: Responsible for taking meeting minutes, sending emails about lectures and volunteer activites, trackingR.s.v.p.s, attendance, and earned points, and maintaining the clubfacebook page.

Treasurer: Responsible for collecting dues, organizing fundraisers, ordering food for lectures, ordering merchandise, attending the required yearly treasurer training.

Journal Review Chair: Responsible for working with the Journal Review Leader to choose journal topics, and organizing two journal review meetings per semester.

Article VI – Method of Selecting and/or Removing Officers and Members

Membership ends on October 1st, unless new dues are paid. New officers are selected each March by a general vote of all members. Officers must win elections by a majority vote.

Removal of members: If a member conducts themselves in such a manner deemed detrimental to advancing the purpose of this organization or is in violation of the OSU Student Code of Conduct, they can be removed through a majority vote of the other voting membership or unanimous vote of the officers, with the consultation of the advisor.

Removal of officers: If an officer conducts themselves in such a manner deemed detrimental to advancing the purpose of this organization, is delinquent in performing their officer duties, or is in violation of the OSU Student Code of Conduct, they can be removed through a majority vote of the voting membership or unanimous vote of the other officers, with the consultation of the advisor.

Article VII – Advisor(s) or Advisory Board: Qualification Criteria

Advisors of student organizations must be members of the University faculty or Administrative & Professional staff. The advisor should guide the officers in choosing lecture topics and assist in finding professional contacts. They should attend two of the officer meetings each semester.

Article VIII – Meetings of the Organization: Required meetings and their frequency

There will be one monthly officer meeting or four per semester. Officers are required to three out of four each semester. There will be one general meeting a month open to all members, two journal reviews a semester, and two volunteer opportunities a semester. These meetings are not mandatory.

Article IX – Method of Amending Constitution: Proposals, notice, and voting requirements Proposed amendments should be in writing, should not be acted upon but read in the general meeting in which they are proposed, should be read again at one subsequent general meetingin which the votes will be taken. Approval should require at least two-thirds of voting members present (and to conduct any business an organization should have quorum present at a business meeting, which is at minimum 50% + 1 of total organization members).

Article X – Method of Dissolution of Organization

If the organization should dissolve, the current officers are responsible forclearing all club debts. Any assets or supplies will be donated to the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Honoring the Bond Program.
