Connecting your camera to the computer
There are a number of different ways of importing images from your digital camera onto the computer so you can edit your images in Photoshop.

USB cable
When you bought your camera there would have been a USB cable in the box along with the camera.

• The computer's USB port will be marked with a USB icon like the one above

Attach the larger end of the USB cable (as above) to the computer's USB port
• You may have to look round the computer to find the correct port - it's normally on the front, the side or at the back.

Attach the smaller end of the USB cable into the USB port on the camera
• You may have to look round the camera to find the correct port - sometimes it can be behind a small plastic cover.
• Switch the camera on - normally the camera will go into its image transfer mode automatically.

Please note -
• If you have been using a phone camera the connectors may be a little different to the ones shown above.
• If in doubt, please read the instructions that came with your product.
• If you don't have them with you you will probably be able to find them online by doing a search inGoogle.
• If you've tried this and still can't connect to the computer, ask a member of staff for help.

USB Card Reader
If you take a lot of photographs then a card reader can be a quick way of copying images from the memory card onto the computer. (This way you don't have to keep on connecting the camera all the time.)
When you take photographs on a digital camera, the images are saved onto a memory card
• Memory cards come in various different shapes and sizes depending on what kind of camera you have.
(If you're using a phone camera there is a chance that the memory card inside is not removable.)

The one above is a San DiskSD memory card. (SDHC = Secure Digital High Capacity)
• Other commonly used memory card formats are CF cards and MS cards (CF = Compact Flash, MS = Memory Stick)
• Memory cards tend to be cheaper online than in shops. (San Disk and Kingston seem to be quite reliable brands.)

The card reader attaches to your computer's USB port with an ordinary USB cable in the same way as a camera
• Take the memory card out of your camera and insert it into the appropriate slot on the front of the card reader.
• The slots on this card reader are at the front - this version will read different kinds of memory card. (SD / CF / MS etc)
• The version above is available quite cheaplyhere
