Congratulations on taking the first step toward the ability to

make a difference in the lives of students-

Becoming a Teacher!

What are the steps to becoming a Teacher?

Application Requirements:

1.)*Have or will have a Bachelor’s Degree by the end of the current semester.

2.)*Have attained an overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 or at least 2.75 in the last 60 semester credit hours.

3.)*Have a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in the subject specific content area for the certification being sought or

*15 semester credit hours in the subject-specific content area for Mathematics or Science at or above Grade 7 or

4.)*Obtain a passing score on a TExES Content Certification Examination

5.)*Complete an interview with the EPP Education Specialist

Application Deadlines

We are excited to offer two cycles by which individuals can work toward their goal of becoming one of Region III’s next amazing educators. Each cycle is a stand- alone time period, by which one can move through the certification process.

Cycle I Application Deadline

October 1, 2014- For those applying for the EC – 6 Generalist and 4 – 8 Generalist teaching certification, apply by October 1, 2014.

Cycle II Application Deadline

December 12, 2014- For those applying for the EC- 6 Generalist and 4-8 Generalist teaching certification, apply by December 12, 2014.

Secondary Teaching Applicants

March 2, 2015- For those applying for secondary certification in a specific content area, apply by March 2, 2015. Secondary applicants will also be required to complete the Special Education on-line module.

Late Hire Option- If you have passed your content test and have a district that wishes to hire you immediately, then we can accept you into the program after you are hired with the district.

Complete 30 Hours of Observation

Complete 15 observation hours and document the time on the observation form. The second 15 hours of observation are more hands-on and involved with the teacher and teaching. You will complete a second form for this portion.

Special Education Training

Special Ed online orientation------March 23, 2014----5:30 to 8:30pm

Special Ed face to face training- All participants------April 25, 2015

Pre-Service Training

All participants will participate in pre-service training to be conducted on the second Saturday in April, three Saturdays in May and four Saturdays in June. Some Saturdays may be substituted with evening classes. The pre-service training covers preparation for the Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities EC-12 TExES and subjects that will be critical to participants in their teaching in the fall. All of the training goes toward the 300 total hours required before earning the standard teaching certificate at the end of the program.

July Training Institute

July 6th to July 18th , 2015 (excluding Sunday, July 12)-

This is the required two- week institute, from 8:30am to 4:00 pm each day, that is the final prep for the teaching internship year. This is all required training. It again assists in earning the total of 300 required hours prior to earning the standard teaching certificate.
