Configuring Music on Hold

1.  From your desktop click on the Cisco Service Configuration Icon.

2.  On the left side click on the IP address of your CM and make sure that the following services have been enabled:

a.  Cisco IP Voice Media Streaming App

b.  Cisco MOH Audio Translator

3.  Test the existing music on hold by placing a call from one IP phones to another. When the connection is established, press the hold soft Key. The remote Phone which was placed on hold should now hear the default MOH file.

4.  To add more MP3 files to the MOH server, go to the instructor web site à download à MOH. Download the MP3 file to your hard drive (do this step from the PC running CIPC). Share the file.

5.  From you CM access the shared file and copy it to the following directory under CM: C:/Program files/Cisco/MOH/DropMOHAudioSrouceFilesHere. Notice that after you drop the file in the directory they will disappear. At this point of time the process is working on converting the files. When it is done the file will show up in the following folder in various formats: C:\program files\cisco\tftp path\MOH

6.  To configure the MOH Server, go to Service à Media Resources à Music on Hold Audio Source. In both the “MOH Audio Source File” and “MOH Audio Source Name” select the MP3 file that you downloaded “DanceAroundInTheRain”. Check the “Play Continuously” check box. When done click on Insert.

7.  Scroll toward the end of the window and click on Reset MOH Servers

8.  To add MOH configuration to your IP phone, go to Device à Phones à Find and List Phones.

9.  Select the CIPC phone and click on Line 1 directory number. From the Directory Number configuration window choose the MP3 file that you downloaded for “User Hold Audio Source” and choose the default file for “Network Hold Audio Source”. When done, click on Update, then Reset the device.


Notice that: User Hold Audio Source is the audio source that plays when a user initiates a hold action. And

Network Hold Audio Source is the audio source that plays when the network initiates a hold action.

10. Go to the Computer Management window and restart the following service: Cisco IP Voice Media Streaming Application.

11. To test the functionality of your configuration do the following:

a.  Place a call from the CIPC phone to the IP Phone. When connected press the hold key on the CIPC phone. Which is MOH source is heard on the IP phone ______?

  1. Disconnect and connect again. This time when the call is established press the Transfer soft key. Which MOH source is heard on the IP phone______?
