CONFERENCE RELATED INFORMATION

PRE-CONFERENCE TRAINING SESSION: Please review the website and the information concerning the Pre-Conference Training Session which will be presented by Michael Brustein on Tuesday, May 16 at 8:00AM. The form for registering for this pre-conference can be found on this website. The group will be held to the first 100 who register. The session was sold out very early in New Orleans. It was so successful that it was decided to offer another Pre-Conference Training Session in Palm Springs. You will find specific information on the content of what Michael will be covering listed within the promotional segment that relates to the forthcoming conference.

Michael will also be our opening general session on Wednesday morning. The content of this program will be entirely different from that which will be presented in the Pre-Conference Training Session.

NACTEI REGISTRATION PROCESS HAS CHANGED: Please review the NACTEI registration form with care. The procedure for registering for the conference is totally new. If you should have a problem with the procedure, please contact JD. Lee @

GROUND TRAVEL TO AND FROM HOTEL: Travel to and from the hotel is free. You only need to contact the hotel and they will provide “free” transportation for you and your friends to and from the hotel. Some people are arranging to rent a car to do some traveling prior to and/or after the conference. The hotel will provide transportation for you to drop off or pick up your car at no charge to you. Just tell them you need a ride/be picked up.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS AND RATE: The cutoff date for making a room reservation is April 15, 2006. When making your reservation be certain to indicate you are with NACTEI. The room rate is $99. Any request made after the cut-off date will be handled on a space available basis. You can make your reservation by calling either 760-322-6000 or 800-996-3426. You will love this hotel and its location. There are so many places to see and things to do. The discounted rate applies three days prior to and after the conclusion of the conference. Come early or stay over. There is so much to see and do. You are in Palm Springs – take advantage of the opportunity. As some say, “there nestled at the foot of the great gray giant known as Mount San Jacinto, is the pearl of the desert, Palm Springs.”

When checks are mailed, please make sure that a copy of your registration form is included or your name is listed on the check stub. Too many times we receive checks without a name. A number of times a business manager has mailed the check without your registration form. Who is this check for???????

NEW POLICY CONCERNING REGISTRATION REFUNDS, LATE REGISTRATION, AND PAYMENT OF FEE:

1.  Requests for a refund must be received by email no later than April 16, 2006.

2.  Any registration received after April 16, that includes on site registration, will be charged an additional $25.

3.  All registration fees must be paid in full by April 16 or supported by a purchase order.

4.  A cancellation request received between March 16 and April 16, 2006 will be charged a $25 processing fee.

5.  You may substitute a person in your place if, after registering, you find you are unable to attend. The request to substitute a person must be submitted in writing and include the name of the person.

REGISTRATION FORMS: This year there are three forms:

1.  One for registering for Michael Brustein’s Pre-Conference Training Session,

2.  A form for the conference attendees, and

3.  A form for registering your guest. All three can be found on the website: nactei.org

AIRLINE DISCOUNT RATES: NACTEI has contracted with the following airline to offer NACTEI members a discounted rate. Keep in mind you might be able to acquire a better rate by going directly to their respective websites:

FLY TO WHERE? There are three ways to get to Palm Springs: If you fly into Palm Springs you will have a free shuttle to and from the hotel. You can fly into LAX and then into Palm Springs. The drive to Palm Springs from LAX is about 130 minutes. If you do this you could spend a day or two in Los Angles and see the sites and then drive on to Palm Springs. You can also fly into Ontario, CA. Here again you will need to rent a car but you will get to see a great deal on your way. The travel time is around 80 minutes. Our car rental agreement with AVIS will still apply at any location.

AVIS – SPECIAL RATES FOR NACTEI MEMBERS: If you are flying into Palm Springs, LAX, Ontario, or anyplace in Orange County you can still acquire an Avis car at a special discount rate by calling 800-331-1600 or going to www.avis.com and referring to our code number of J659724. You need to take advantage of the time you will have in the area and see what it has to offer. The rate is good for one week prior to and after the conclusion of the conference.

PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATE: If you checked the designated line on your registration form, there will be a Certification of Attendance in your conference packet that shows that you attended the NACTEI Conference for a certain number of hours. This certification has allowed professional development credit/continuation units to be granted in most states for those who have to acquire so many hours toward re-certification. If you failed to check this box or if you are not certain if you did, please contact me ASAP.

CONFERENCE DRESS: The dress will be resort causal. You are in a resort area. When you come to the opening session be sure to be dressed for the tour if you are going on it. You will not have a chance to change clothes. We will go immediately from the luncheon to the buses. Be sure to bring your camera to the opening session

STARTING TIME OF CONFERENCE: If you are attending Michael Brustein’s Pre-Conference Session, it will start at 8:00PM on Tuesday morning, May 16, 2006. The NACTEI conference registration along with a continental type breakfast will be held on Wednesday morning, May 17, 2006. The opening session will start at 8:30AM sharp that same day.

TOUR: This tour will cover much more than the one did when we were here before. The buses will leave at 12:45PM sharp and should return to the hotel no later than 5:00PM. Remember to dress for going on the tour when you go to the opening general session. We will have water on the buses for you. Be sure to drink it.

Want a listing of golf courses? Want……..? Just call 800-967-3767. Once you find out all the things there are to do and the fact that you are only about 130 minutes from LA, then you will see the need to rent a car. As indicated before, we have made special arranges with AVIS to provide you a car at a discounted rate. This rate applies at all three locations. If you fly into Palm Springs, you have free transportation to and from the airport. Therefore you can get the car prior to the conference, during the conference or after it is over.

SHARE THIS INFORMATION: Do you represent secondary? What about the postsecondary person from your state? Are you an area vocational director, why not invite some of your superintendents to the conference? We have many that do. We also have many who send h/h administrative assistant to the conference. Are you the local “Perkins” person? I can promise you, this conference is for you. We have so much going on it will take more than one person from a state/area/LEA’s to cover all the sessions.

NEXT YEAR’S CONFERENCE: Even though we might not know the location of the next conference you can still mark your calendar. The conference will be held the week after Mother’s Day: May 15 – 18, 2007.

Please do the following for us: Inform others about the conference. This is a great time to bring administrators up-to-date, invite them to come with you. There will be sessions for local administrators/area directors, state level secondary and postsecondary staff. We are talking about fiscal, data, accountability ………. and other related issues that apply to Perkins/CTE.

This is the best possible use of Perkins funds for professional and staff development.
