Overview

Most conferences currently being offered on STEM, STEAM and Entrepreneurship tend to be targeted towards teachers and involve a series of speakers and the occasional mini-workshops. This conference is designed to be different.

The goal of this conference is to inspire, empower and ignite students and teachers to be innovative, creative and entrepreneurial using the thinking involved in STEAM. This is a conference designed and led by students and teachers for students and teachers.

Day One (Friday November 24) is a day of Blue Sky Thinking for Teachers and Senior Secondary students to trial and share ideas and get feedback. In many ways it is an unconference – a semi-structured opportunity to connect, network, and upskill each other. Teachers will have the chance to work together with peers and senior secondary students to design new activities and programs for their schools.

Day Two (Saturday November 25) is a day for students and teachers to share, experience and try a range of hands-on STEAM activities. The main focus will be on activities for Foundation to Year 8. We are inviting schools to send teachers WITH a small team of students (up to 3 students - preferably from Years 4 – 8) to share their STEAM activities and to connect with innovative students and teachers from around Victoria.

Who Will Attend

· Students – those who are already (or aspire to be) Technology Leaders in your school

· Teachers – those who have little experience and those who have a lot

· Heads of Learning Areas – who wish to see what is possible and what is already happening

· Heads of Curriculum – who wish to discuss how to create transdisciplinary units that are powerfully engaging

· Principals and Deputy Principals – to witness what is possible by embedding the Technologies Curriculum in your school

This will truly be an inspiring and engaging conference for all those who participate!

§ An invitation will be extended to experts to talk about the challenge from their perspective and guide the teams
§ Information about each challenges to be aimed at Year 4 – 8 students
§ Outcome: Students to create a 2 min pitch of their solution for the completion session / Various Rooms

Mini-Workshop Proposal Form – Day 1 and 2 (Contributor and Sponsors)

The aim of the conference mini-workshop sessions run by contributors and sponsors is for organisations to share some of their great STEAM and entrepreneurial activities and ideas with students and teachers. What creative and innovative products and activities does your organisation offer? What do you want to share with others? You could even include videos, experiments, anything that will leave people with ideas to try in their own schools.

Criteria for workshop:

· Must be hands-on and last at most 45 mins

· Could be cross-curricular or a new STEAM or Entrepreneurial activity idea you want to try

· Could have workshop participants create and innovate

· Could have teachers working alongside students

· It is an opportunity to get feedback from students and teachers

PARKING
Parking is available in the parking lot on Morrison street across from the main entrance to Scotch College. There will also be 76 parking spaces beneath the Sir Zelman Cowen Science Centre.
Whilst there will be plenty of parking available on Friday November 24th it might be challenging on Saturday November 25th due to APS sports occurring at Scotch College. /
