The Peralta Community College District is a two-year college system, dedicated to providing comprehensive educational and community services to the communities it serves, including the cities of Albany, Alameda, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Piedmont California. The District enrolls over 25,000 students in a broad range of transfer and occupational curricula. The colleges in the District include College of Alameda, Laney College, Merritt College and Berkeley City College, which operate under the governance of a seven- member Board of Trustees and are administered by a Chancellor/Superintendent.

Under general direction, performs work related to establishing, maintaining and enhancing the District’s information systems and databases and provides support for these on various computer platforms as determined by the District.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Oversees the scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log back-up notifications and database replication between multiple SQL servers.

·  Ensures that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are met; maintains back-up and recovery plans.

·  Monitors and maintains performance, integrity and security of database environments in accordance with internal guidelines and requirements specified by the database vendor.

·  Manages ERP (Oracle/PeopleSoft) application environments (i.e. application servers, process schedulers and reporting engines).

·  Performs routine database refreshes of development, test and staging environments.

·  Develops ongoing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).

·  Develops and ensures compliance with database administration and user standards and procedures; audits, modifies and amends data in systems using SQL command, hand-editing and bulk import techniques.

·  Designs and implements applications separately or as part of a team; adheres to coding and documentation standards; recommends standards for new technologies.

·  Communicates regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity.

·  Conducts all facets of database planning and design for application development.

·  Provides strategic and technical guidance on PeopleSoft infrastructure decisions.

·  Pursues professional growth activities to remain current in database administration.

·  Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in computer science, information systems or a related field.

AND

Four (4) years of practical experience administering PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for enterprise-wide administrative software systems with a special focus in maintaining PeopleSoft components such as web, application and batch servers.

OR

Any combination of education and relevant work experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

2.  Knowledge of:

·  Data administration principles and data modeling concepts;

·  Formal data structure design, relational database design and file structure;

·  Network configuration, programming and protocols;

·  Microsoft relational database management system and toolset;

·  SQL and other computer programming languages;

·  Windows server operating systems and related software applications;

·  Principles of training and providing work direction to others.

3.  Ability To:

·  Prepare clear and concise program documentation, user problems, reports or work performed and other related written material;

·  Analyze, design, code and test programs;

·  Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;

·  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

4.  Demonstrated intermediate to advanced level proficiency in the following:

·  File system operations, shell scripting and security;

·  PeopleSoft system administration, patching and installation;

·  Microsoft SQL Server;

·  SQL/index application tuning;

·  Back-up and recovery;

·  Database development and normalization;

·  Production environment support and troubleshooting of database platform, SQL and related application issues.

5.  Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

·  Five (5) years of experience with database and system administration, preferably in an educational environment, including ERP applications software, (e.g. Oracle/PeopleSoft Human Resources, Financials and Student Administration systems) or related systems.

·  Experience with development tools and/or products such as SQR, PeopleCode, Crystal and XML.

·  Experience with EMC SAN Storage and VMWare.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:

Premiums are fully paid for full-time, regular employees and their eligible dependents. The District contributes a prorated amount to the premiums for regular employees working less than full-time based on the employee’s FTE. In addition to your contribution, Peralta pays 10.707% of your salary to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Retirement eligibility begins as early as age 50. After 10 years of creditable service, medical benefits in retirement are extended until age 65.

Other voluntary benefits are also available. Other benefits include vacation leave beginning at 10 days/year, 12 days/year sick leave, and holidays. Enrollment fees are waived for employees for courses taught within the Peralta Community College District.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employees must satisfy all pre-employment requirements to work for the District which include, but are not limited to, the following items:

REQUIRED FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

Tuberculosis Examination: Prior to employment, the successful candidate will be required to submit evidence (either skin test or X-ray report) of being free of tuberculosis within the past sixty (60) days. The TB test is a condition of employment and any expense must be borne by the successful candidate.

Fingerprinting Requirement:

As a condition of employment, all employees working for community colleges in the State of California are required to be fingerprinted within the first ten (10) working days of the date of employment pursuant to Education Code Section 88024. The District Office of Human Resources processes fingerprints electronically. During the employment intake process, new employees must pay the processing fee of $57.00 via Money Order or Cashiers Check only, payable to the Peralta Community College District.

Immigration Requirement: According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the Peralta Community College District is required to verify that all new employees are:

1)  A citizen or national of the United States;

2)  An alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States; or

3)  An alien authorized by the Immigration and Naturalization Services to work in the United States.

All new employees are required to complete and sign a verification form and provide documentation attesting that he/she is a United States citizen, national, or an alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States.

District Policy: A Social Security Card will be required following selection and prior to completion of the hiring process. The employment process cannot be completed without a copy of the Social Security Card on file in the Office of Human Resources.

Agency Shop Requirement: This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement, which includes an agency shop provision. This provision requires that, as a condition of employment, a new employee must either become a member of the union or pay a service fee to the union.
