GENERAL INFORMATION & TRAVEL TIPS

1

DOCUMENTS

Canadian citizens require a passport valid for at least 3 months (from the date of return) to enter the Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. No visas are required by Canadians.

For students holding passports of other nationalities, you are requested to check regarding your specific nationality, as a Visa may be required.

For your safety, we recommend that you make a photocopy of your passport which you can use for identification purposes while travelling within the country. Passports should be stored in a safety deposit box at your hotels.

CURRENCY

The currency of Austria and Germany is the Euro. The approximately rate of exchange rate is 1.46 (i.e. $1.00 CAD = .68 cents).

The currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Krown (Koruna). The approximate rate of exchange is: .057 (i.e. $1.00 CAD = 17.43 CZK).

SPENDING MONEY

Since breakfast and dinner are included in the cost of your trip, you will only need spending money for lunches, snacks, drinks and other items of personal nature.

Plan on approximately E20.00 per day, plus shopping. It is wise to carry about 150 Euros with you from Canada, as you may not have the opportunity to exchange money right away.

For Prague we also recommend buying Czech Krowns to cover the expense of 2 lunches, drinks, shopping, etc. These can be ordered from your bank a couple of weeks prior to departure, or purchased at a currency exchange outlet on arrival. The hotel in Prague offers currency exchange service (rates are higher). There is also an ATM machine located at walking distance from the hotel.

ATM cards can be used to withdraw Euros directly from banking machines. Please check with your bank before departure to ensure that your PIN works overseas.

We do not advise the use of Traveller’s Cheques, as the exchange rate given is not very favourable, and they are difficult to exchange.

We do recommend the use of a money belt to carry cash and valuables.

TIPS AND GRATUITIES

Tips to the bus driver and guides are included in your package cost. You do not need to pay any additional tips. The Tour Leader will look after this on behalf of the group.
