JURIED EXHIBIT ENTRY FORM

Skateboarding and its associated art has had a profound effect on our culture, and is currently riding a powerful crest of popularityaround the world. The graphicsand stories of this sport canbe appreciated by people of all ages and backgrounds. Everyone has a tale to share; if you can tell a story or make a statement with your art, all the better.

Artwork submitted for Concrete Wave – Art of Skateboarding should depict, explore, interpret, or comment on any aspect of skateboarding, including but not limited to its graphic design, history, philosophy, or technique. The purpose of the exhibit is to celebrate skateboarding and encourage people of all backgrounds and ages to interact.

Artworks submitted for the exhibit can include but are not limited to the following:

1. Painted wooden skateboard decks, new or used.

2. 2D art – drawings, sketches, paintings, etchings, block prints, silk screen, air brush, multimedia.

3. 3D art – sculptures in wood, stone, clay, metal, recycled skateboards, multimedia.

4. Videos (5 minutes or shorter).

The submitted art will be judged equally on content, design and execution of technique.

So although much of art is decorative and pretty, let’s follow the skateboard tradition

and not only present some beautifully painted or assembled art, but tell a story that will

move the viewer or rekindle a memory so that he will want to share it.

Eligibility: Open to artists of all ages. Entry fee of $ 20 for up to three pieces of art.

Cash awards: First place $ 100, Second place $ 50, Third place $25 to be juried from

all the categories (3 awards total).

SPECIFICATIONS: All media accepted. Submit images as jpegs.

  1. Decks can be new or used. Blank decks can be found on the internet. Trucks andwheels can be on or off, per artist’s esthetic vision. All sizes, widths, and styles accepted.
  2. 2D work should be framed, with glass or Plexiglas, and wire for hanging. Size limit 3 x4 feet.
  3. Skateboard design on paper 10” x 34” unframed.
  4. Sculpture. Limit 3 feet in any dimension, 50 pounds weight. ***Please contact us with any

5. Video submissions should be 5 minutes or shorter. Submit on Flashdrive, or submit link to your

video on YouTube or web site.

IMAGERY CONTENT/ LEGAL: This exhibit with performances is designed to serve as broad an

audience as possible, in public accessible spaces visited by people of all ages, races and social

and religious backgrounds. Artwork containing or depicting nudity, violence, extreme language,

sexual or political themes is not eligible.

All skaters will follow the park’s safety rules including personal conduct andsafety equipment.

All skaters must provide the release of liability and assumptionof risk form, signed by the

participant and parent/guardian. All skaters have signed a County Parks publicity photo release

form; an additional form may be used for this event. For directions, policies and

SALES: Gallery commission on art sold during the exhibit is 25%.

PUBLICITY: The St. Charles County Arts Council and the St. Charles County Parks and Recreation

Department reserve the right to photograph all exhibited works for web use and publicity.
