Conciliation at Coventry University
Coventry University has launched a Conciliation Scheme to provide students with an informal supportive route to resolving complaints and dealing with concerns, as well as review of results requests.
Students are encouraged to raise any concerns or queries at the earliest opportunity, as this typically means it is easier and quicker to resolve. You are of course able to discuss any concerns with your Faculty course team, a member of staff in the appropriate department or your Faculty Registry. However, it is acknowledged that sometimes you may feel it is easier to seek impartial advice and support.
The University has a number of Conciliators and students are strongly encouraged to approach any one of them for objectiveadvice and guidance, and where necessary, assistance when seeking to informally resolve a complaint or other concern. This can often provide a quicker resolution to any problems or issues you are facing, and enable you to focus on your academic studies.
So why should I see a Conciliator? Wouldn’t it just be easier to make a formal complaint?
Seeking advice or reaching a resolution with the support of a Conciliator is quicker and often easier for all concerned. The Conciliator will be available to meet with you, listen to your concerns, and seek to resolve any issues or problems you have, whether it be about course details, assessment or even difficulties with another person.
After you have met with the Conciliator, if no resolution seems possible you will still have the opportunity to seek advice from the Students’ Union Advice Centre (SUAC) and/or proceed with a Stage 1 formal complaint (under the Complaints Procedure, Appendix 10 of the General Regulations) and/or seek a request for a review (under the relevant procedure at Appendix 2: Procedures for Reviewing Award Decisions and Considering Appeals by Students of the Academic Regulations). If you do wish to proceed with a formal complaint or a request for a review, you can complete the standard Complaints Pro-Forma or Results Review Request Form. Please mention whether or not you sought advice from one of the Conciliators.
So how do I get in touch with a Conciliator?
We encourage you to contact a Conciliator from your own Faculty where possible, however you are free to contact any of the Conciliators listed in the table below. It may be easier if you initially contact the Conciliator by email to arrange an appointment to meet.
