Conceptual Physics Lesson Plans for the week of 02/09/15 to 02/13/15

MONDAY: Today you will take the chapter 24 test. If you finish the test early you may start on the homework: Read chapter 25:0-3, take note that include figures 25.3, 25.4, and 25.5. Answer RQ25 1-3 and 4-8 (two assignments).

TUESDAY: We will begin our study of waves. We will review your homework to get us started. We will talk about waves as a wiggle and we will learn the ‘parts’ of a wave, then we will look at what actually moves when a wave travels. Homework: Read 25: 4-8; take notes that include figures 25.8, 25.9 and 25.14.

WEDNESDAY: Today you will learn the relationship between the period and frequency of a wave with these equations: f = 1/T and T – 1/f. Your understanding of these equations will be evaluated as we solve PAC25 21 and 22. Then we will answer RQ25: 9-14. (Do these for homework of we do not get to them in class.) Homework: Answer TAE25 29-30.

THURSDAY:Today we will study the equation for calculating the velocity of a wave. You will understand why this is a very unusual equation and not at all like the equation for the velocity of a particle. You will be reminded that the speed of light (speed c) is 3.0 x 108 m/s. To test your understanding we will work on PAC25 23-25(N.B. 1 m = 1.09 yd). Then we will learn the characteristics of longitudinal, transverse and standing waves. Your understanding will be tested as we review the homework. Tonight’s homework is to read section 9 and take notes that include figures 25.15 and 25.16, answer RQ25 15 and 16, as well as TAE25 31-32. The test over waves will be one week from today. The test over chapter 25 will be one week from today.

FRIDAY: We will review the Doppler Effect today and use the homework to test your understanding. With the time remaining we will catch up with topics we did not fully discuss earlier this week.
