COURSE TITLE: Computer Applications I

Goal

The goal of this course is to provide students with opportunities to enhance and improve their technology, decision-making, productivity, communications, and problem-solving skills. Areas of instruction include advanced computer applications in the Microsoft Office Suite. This includes the integration of word processing (WORD), desktop publishing (PUBLISHER), spreadsheet (EXCEL), database (ACCESS), and presentation software (POWERPOINT) as well as the use of other emerging topics and technologies. *Some examples of specific topics of study are included but not limited to what is listed in the tables below.

Academic Standards

Students will have a variety of reading comprehension and writing activities through the use of technology throughout the semester in an effort to improve school wide student achievement in these specific areas.

Portfolio (Folder)

Students will keep an electronic portfolio of assignments/ projects throughout the entire semester that will be monitored, evaluated, and presented to the teacher for a grade in one of the grading profile areas.

Class Expectations

  • Be on time to class and in the classroom when the bell rings as the locked door will be closing
  • Absolutely no food or drinks in class near the computer at desk. All food MUST be disposed of or put away out of sight prior to sitting at your desk. Please do not allow this task to make you tardy!!!
  • Respect other’s feelings – no put downs. Disrespect to the instructor or to your classmates will not be tolerated and absolutely no profanity (regardless if it is directed towards the teacher or NOT)!
  • Take care of personal needs before class. Do not put on make-up, comb hair etc. in the classroom. Students have 6 hall passes for the semester, use them wisely!
  • Students are to remain in their assigned seat. Students do not walk while teacher is talking and permission must be given before changing seats to work on a different computer.
  • There will be no gathering at the door before the bell rings.
  • Daily attendance is extremely important for a successful semester. Please refer to the attendance policy in the student handbook and the policy for making up work. Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. Teacher will post tutorial after school if students need assistance and to provide opportunity for students to makeup work missed.

Parent/Guardian: It is very important that we have an open door to communicate throughout the semester to aid in the success of your student. It is essential to provide a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. I have outlined classroom procedures and expectations in an effort to create a safe and positive learning environment for each student. After reviewing the course syllabus, please complete the information below verifying that you and your student have read and fully understand procedures and expectations for Ms. Williams’ Computer Applications Course as outlined in the course syllabus.
