Make up your menu!

Computer Task

Your task is to write a menu. You will need to create a menu including the dishes but there are some suggestions below to get you started. Remember that you can stick to the things that have been listed or add any extras you would like to the menu as well. You might like to add in what your favourite dishes are!

You should create the menu as a Word document.

  • You must make sure you have the name of the restaurant as well as the appropriate headings, starter, main course and dessert whilst also making sure the menu is eye-catching.
  • You can use any layout of paper but there must be a picture on the poster to reflect what kind of restaurant it is. You can either find some suitable images from the clip art on your pc or take your own pictures using a digital camera.

You can also use any type of font or colours- just make sure it looks interesting!

You will need to decide on your page layout, order of foods, titles, font, size, graphics, colours and anything else you can think of.

The rest is up to you!

Idea for you to use:

The name of the restaurant could be Laura’s Lovely Luncheon. Ideas for dishes on the menu are:

  • Chicken in a white wine sauce with potatoes and country vegetables
  • Beef stew with mashed potatoes; soup of the day
  • Pancakes with ice cream
  • Chicken stroganoff
  • Pizza with various toppings (chicken & ham, pepperoni, roasted vegetables, ham & pineapple)
  • Chicken liver pate with crusty bread
  • Ice cream
  • Strawberries and cream
  • Tomato salad

Tutor Notes

This activity can be adapted for learners to practise using their Word skills on the computer.

Depending on the computer skills of the learner, you will need to consider the amount of IT support required. For example, how confident is the learner in being able to cut and paste images into a Word file? Do they know how to align images with text? Can they use borders, text boxes and so on? Do they know how to add clip art either directly from word or by using the Internet?
