UMBC

Computer Science Electrical Engineering (CSEE)

Graduate Application Checklist

Phase I

1. The GraduateSchool Application Form

2. “Statement of Academic Goals and Research Interests/Statement of Purpose”

3. Application fee (we will not process any application without the fee.)

4. Official transcripts of all post-secondary institutions attended

5. Three letters of recommendation

6. Official GRE (general test) score report sent directly from ETS.*

7. Official TOEFL score report (if appropriate) sent directly from ETS.*

*UMBC’s Institution Code is 5835.

You do not need to use a department code as TOEFL and GRE score reports must be sent directly to the graduate school, NOT the department. Leave the department code section blank, if possible.

If you are unable to leave the program code blank, then use the following:

Computer Science = 78; Electrical Engineering = 66, Computer Engineering = 99.

When scores are sent to the department, they will still need to be forwarded the graduate school and this takes time so your file will be processed faster if your scores are sent directly to the graduate school.

8. Financial Assistance – financial support in the form of teaching assistantships and research assistantships are sometimes available to qualified applicants. To apply for departmental financial aid, simply check the boxes on the “financial assistance” section of the Graduate School Application Form.

9. Graduate School Residency Form (Maryland residents ONLY)

If you believe you qualify to be classified as a Maryland resident for in-state tuition purposes, you must complete this form. The Registrar’s office provides detailed information about how residency is determined.

10. DO NOT send your application documents to the department. ALL application documents must be submitted to the GraduateSchool to the address below:
