Course Description:

Financial Algebra is a comprehensive learning program aligned to the Common Core State Standards. It is an applications-rich, algebra-based, technology-oriented program that incorporates mathematical skills from Algebra , Probability, and Statistics in real-world contexts. Topics include: Banking, Investing, Credit, Employment and Income Taxes, Automobile Ownership, Independent Living, and Retirement Planning and Household Budgeting. The course allows students to experience the interrelatedness of mathematical topics, find patterns, make conjectures, and extrapolate from known situations to unknown situations. The mathematics topics contained in this course are introduced, developed, and applied in an as-needed format in the financial settings covered. Students are encouraged to use a variety of problem-solving skills and strategies in real-world contexts, and to question outcomes using mathematical analysis and data to support their findings.

Methods of instruction:

1. Class Lectures and review of sample problems.

2. Teacher led examples of book problems and real world problems. Group work on chromebooks.

3. Chromebook and workbook assignments, problems, questions, and practical problems will be used.

4. Chapter tests quizzes will be given during and after the chapter to assess knowledge of concepts and applications.

A=100-90%

B=89-80%

Make Up Work/Tests

Students will be allowed to make up all missing work/test until the next test is due. The Computer assignments can be done in class or finished for homework. The Quiz and Tests must be done and or made up during class time. The student is responsible to turn in missing work, and see teacher about make up tests and quizzes.

Tardies

The school tardy policy will be enforced. Fourth tardy is a referral to a counselor and a detention. Seventh tardy is a referral to the Assistant Principal and will be Saturday School.

Class Rules

1.  Be Courteous and respectful to others students and teachers at all times.

2.  NO CHEATING or copying work. You will lose credit minus points, then you will be referred.

3.  Be on time to class the tardy policy will be strictly enforced.

4.  Bring Book, Workbook, and Notebook along with pen, pencil and calculator to class everyday.

5.  Food and Drinks not allowed in the class. Exception 5 minutes after 2nd break. A water bottle is allowed.

6.  Smartphones are only allowed with instructor permission. Do not have them out during instruction or work. If there is additional time the instructor will let you know if it is appropriate. Please keep them away. If I have to warn you multiple times I will take it and give it to the office.
