Computer Lab Rules

Basic Rules

1. Follow all school rules.

2.Follow individual teacher’s rules.

3.Sit in assigned seat. Do not switch workstations without permission.

4.No “horseplay.”

5.No interruption of work (this includes messages, loud computer noises or anyother source of interruption).

6. Be courteous at all times; do not attempt to access anybody else’s account.

7. No food or drink allowed in the lab.

Equipment

8. Equipment must be treated with ultimate care—students will not vandalizeequipment (including but not limited to: removing keycaps, marking on desk or equipment, hitting the keyboard repeatedly, slamming the mice, unplugging anything, kicking cables…etc.).

9. The supervising teacher must approve all disks, CD’s and any other softwarebefore use.

10.Clean up your workstation before leaving (pick up trash, make sure you are taking all your materials—only YOU areresponsible for any belongings left behind).

11. Push your chair under the desk before leaving. Put the headphones on the tower. LOG OFF. Put monitor down.

12.Students are not allowed to modify anything in the control panel (examples: desktops, screensavers, volume, backgrounds) unless given permission or it’s a part of the lesson.

13.Students are not allowed to turn off computers, unless asked to do so by the teacher.

14.No games may be played on the computers; unless they are educational, and authorized by the teacher.

15.Students are not allowed to participate in any chat rooms on the internet or access personal e-mail accounts.

16.Students should not be in the computer lab without adultsupervision.

Appropriate Use
You are responsible for your account at all times. The school reserves the right to suspend or revoke your access if you violate these rules.
Examples of Inappropriate Uses
  • Using the system for any illegal purpose.
  • Accessing another student’s account.
  • Posting personal messages about yourself or others.
  • Posting messages or accessing materials that are abusive, obscene, sexually orientated, threatening, harassing, damaging to another’s reputation or illegal.
  • Wasting school resources through improper use of the computer (this includes personal printing).
  • Gaining unauthorized access to restricted information or resources.

Rules
  • No food or drink except in designated area.

  • No personal software (this includes games).
  • No behaving in a manner disruptive to other students.
  • No abusing the equipment.

YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE LAB/CLASSROOM FOR VIOLATING ANY OF THE ABOVE RULES.

Do not access systems using another user’s account and password. Under no circumstances should you reveal your account password to another user.

Accessing, circulating or creating offensive material is prohibited.

Computer Lab Rules

Eating or Drinking

  • Food and beverages are not permitted at or near computer workstations.
  • Unopened beverages should be kept in book bags.

Equipment

  • Report any damage to equipment or software to a lab instructor.
  • Report any suspected misuse of equipment or software to a lab instructor.
  • Do not attempt to repair or disassemble any lab equipment.
  • Do not install any hardware onto any workstation.

Illegal Use

  • Do not delete, alter, or damage a computer or one of its components.
  • Do not use a computer or one of its components to disseminate copyright materials.
  • Do not insert a virus into a computer or network.
  • Do not install, or run, personal applications.
  • Do not deliberately alter the configuration or system settings of your workstation.
  • The transmission or reception of obscene, offensive or discriminatory information is unacceptable. The transmission of electronic information that is fraudulent or threatening may be just as libelous as the same information in print form.
  • The computers in the labs are provided for educational purposes and work associated with school. Please use them responsibly.

Games

  • Game playing is not permitted in the computer lab.
  • Yahoo! Games, and other types of online games are not recognized as applications used for work associated with your course of study and, therefore, are prohibited.

Email

  • Email, Instant Messaging, Chat, and other types of online communications are not allowed without lab instructor’s approval.

Printing

  • You can help conserve valuable resources. Do not print large files unless it is absolutely necessary. Do not print multiple copies of the same document.

Login Accounts

  • Safeguard your password and do not share it with others.
  • Do not use a user ID and password that has not been assigned to you.
  • Remember to “Log Off” at the end of each session.
