ART IIFive Artists of the Mexican Revolution

A Mural Project

SOL’s – identify, define, draw, create, research, analyze, synthesize

Bellwork – Students will become familiar with all five Mexican artists that will be represented. Students will view examples of each artist.

Objectives

  1. The students will (TSW) identify an artist by his or her style.
  2. TSW be able to identify specific paintings.
  3. TSW define the vocabulary of the paintings.
  4. TSW draw and paint their own mural using contemporary events and the style of one of the artists studied.
  5. TSW learn about the Mexican War of Independence and the Mexican Revolution.
  6. TSW research one of the five famous Mexican artists associated the Mexican Revolution.
  7. TSW research prominent revolutionary figures from Mexico’s history.

Directions

  1. Conduct research on Mexico, the Mexican War of Independence, the Mexican Revolution, and select one of the five Mexican artists. USE the websites given below.
  2. Research selected artist – bio info and images. Become very familiar with their artwork. **USE the RESEARCH QUESTIONS form to gather info and write it down.
  3. Become familiar with vocabulary.
  4. Select a contemporary news event today and plan a rough draft for a MURAL.
  5. Create rough draft of MURAL, utilizing the style of selected artist.
  6. Execute the small MURAL on given surface.
  7. Upon completion of final MURAL, students will present and discuss their murals with the class in a verbal group critique.
