For

Computer Class

Pilgrim Lutheran School introduced the Success Maker and now the Success Maker Enterprises software in February of 2004. The subjects of Math, Language, Reading, Spelling and recently Science and Algebra have been available to every student pre K through 8. Progress printouts are made available to teachers and parents. Students are evaluated in the Computer Lab based on achievement, effort, attitude, behavior and respect for others and equipment.

We have generally seen a marked increase in test scores since implementing the Success Maker program. Incidentally, the increases in test scores were predicted by the statistical results from other schools that have used this program. In recent years the Terra Nova standardized test revealed a stunning increase in competency. We have noticed a greater mastery of learned skills and improved attitude for learning within the groups that we have in computer lab, especially in Math. To date, and as a whole, this is the highest achieving 7th and 8th grade class ever. The computer lab is thoroughly capable of handling gifted students as well as those needing remedial or supplementary help.

We have implemented online exercises and tutorials in math and language for pre-school through 8th grade that can be used to augment the current curriculum and further individualize student lessons. Similar programs for Science and Life Skills are available. This curriculum is on the school website (www.pilgrimschoolonline.net) under KNOWLEDGE QUEST.

In addition we have training programs in Microsoft Office available for our students as well as individualized instruction in keyboarding through the Mavis Beacon and Type to Learn 3 software. Source material from Code.Org, and Khan Academy is also used to expose students to various computer skills such as basic JavaScript and HTML/CSS. Khan Academy is also used to provide supplementary work in appropriate Math skills for each grade. We aim to help our teachers with every student to assess their abilities and assist in their students reaching their full potential.

Recognizing the merit of a sensible implementation of computer time in our curriculum, we continually look to upgrade our lab, and to provide additional software in a cost effective and timely manner. Funds are generated by donations and set line item amounts in the church/school budget. At this time there are no additional student fees for technology.
