Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for three (3)full-time,fixed term positions as computational scientistswith the Irish Centre for High End Computing (ICHEC) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. These positionsare funded by Science Foundation Ireland as part of ICHEC’s membership of the LEROResearch Centre and will be based in the ICHEC Dublin offices.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will work in a team of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students under the supervision of Dr Michael Lysaght. The team’s research focuses on data management and high performance I/O. As HPC & web-scale computing both approach exascale, architectures are becoming massively parallel. Working with industry partners, the job will focus on investigating new approaches to extract the best performance efficiency across the I/O hierarchy on future extreme scale systems and will target specific domains including Climate, Oil & Gas, Life Sciences and Finance. The successful candidate will collaborate primarily with other LERO researchers and with R&D teams based at industry partners.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have a track record in a research and development environment and strong software development experience is essential. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience (min. 4+ yrs.) in computer science or related discipline. The ideal candidate would have an in-depth understanding of software development methods in general, should have expert level C/C++ and Linux knowledge as well as in-depth experience with storage architectures, parallel file systems (preferably Lustre or GPFS), I/O strategies, MPI I/O and parallel I/O libraries. Candidates should have excellent communication and organizational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products; and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.

Salary: €37,750 - €46,255 per annum(public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)

Start date: Posts are available to start immediately and the contracts are to project end date of 31st December 2019.
