FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COMPTON HIGH ALUMNI COMING HOME TO GIVE BACK

Homecoming Day, November 2, 2007

COMPTON, California (October 14, 2007) – The Compton High School Alumni Association (CHSAA) is urging all Compton High alumni to wear your Tarbabe garb and come back home on Friday, November 2, 2007, to participate in Homecoming Day 2007. “We are urging all alumni to come back to give back,” says Deborah Spottsville, CHSAA president, ‘by donating their time and/or money for the benefit of our alma mater.”

“The CHSAA wants to add a new dimension to ‘homecoming.’ In addition to supporting the football team and the celebrating the coronation of the homecoming queen/king and court, the alumni will come back home to establish relationships with the students and staff. While thedemographics have changed significantly since 1896 (the year ComptonUnionHigh School was founded), there is one thing we have in common: We are ‘Tarbabes for Life’. We are family.”

Activities will occur all day, making it convenient for all to participate. The day will begin at 9:00 a.m., preparing to go to the classrooms from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to talk about “Tarbabe Pride.” The students’ pep assembly will take place under the Big C at noon. Gilda Acosta-Gonzalez ’74 will share a few words about Homecoming and Tarbabe Pride, and the CHSAA will make a special presentation. The tailgate party will begin at 4:00 p.m. on the south side of the Administration building.

The last event of the day is the football game. The Tarbabes will face off against the Long Beach Poly Jack Rabbits, the defending Moore League champions. Poly is expected to show up in force with their strong alumni group; therefore, the Tarbabe alumni are urged to arrive by 6:00 p.m. The football pre-game show begins at 6:30 p.m. “We will walk around the track behind the band and drill team during the pre-game show, waving our pom poms along the way,” Spottsville says. The game will start at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Louis Thomas, the band director from 1966 to 1975, will return to direct the half-time show, which will include a tribute to the alumni. The festivities will conclude with the singing of the Alma Mater after the game is over.
