Composition Assignment: Group Composition and Performance

In groups of Three or four, you are to compose and practice your musical piece. You and your group will perform this piece to the class.

This task will demonstrate your ability in:

  • Musical theory.
  • Composing an original piece.
  • Working as a team.
  • Practicing for a performance.

The piece must:

  • Be at least 12 bars of 4 beats in length.
  • At least one melody line.
  • At leasttwopercussiverhythm accompaniment.

Groups will work together to compose the piece, but you are required to write out your own part.

Include in your reflections:

  • A summary of what your group accomplished in the rehearsal.
  • How well do you think the group worked?
  • What did you do well?
  • What do you need to improve on?
  • What does the group need to focus on in the next rehearsal?
