Compose Your Own Fable Project

Due Date: Tuesday, September 22 (at the beginning of class)

INSTRUCTIONS: Now that you have read multiple of Aesop’s famous fables, you will write your own. Working independently or with a partner, complete the following pieces of the assignment:

1) Fable: Write a fable that is inspired by Aesop’s style of writing. Your fable should include two to threepersonified animals as characters; a problem/solution format with a beginning, middle, and end; and a clear moral. The moral should be stated at the end of the fable, much like in “The Hare and the Tortoise” and “The Bald Man and the Fly.” The fable should be one to three paragraphs in length, and each paragraph should be five to seven sentences. The final product should be either neatly handwritten in blue or black ink, or typed.

2) Graphic Organizer: Like those we created for Aesop’s Fables, you should depict the characters, problem, solution, and moral of your original fable on a neat and organized graphic organizer. Your graphic organizer should be completed on construction, white, or color paper. (No notebook paper!)

3) Creative Representation: Creatively represent your original fable’s characters with either a 2D or 3D visual. The visual should be neat, colorful, and creative. (No stick figures!)

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Remember that according to your course syllabus, actions such as cheating, comparing answers, copying homework, and plagiarism will result in a zero and disciplinary action.

Detach and submit the rubric below when you (and your partner) turn in your assignment.
