TIPS

Completing the Decision Framework More Efficiently

DISTRICT: DLT/CSLT

  1. Leadership Questions (Level III)
  2. Use to survey the DLT. Set completion timeline for participants
  3. Discuss results, focusing on those that do not have clear consensus
  4. Record final group answers in the DF
  5. Review Building responses in each of their DFs to identify if there are any critical needs to address

BUILDING: BLT

  1. 1. Leadership Questions (Level III)
  2. Use to survey the entire building staff. Go to “Online Learning Dashboard” and then “Team Assessment
  3. Set completion timeline for participants
  4. One person will need to create the team on the ohioleadership.org site and email the code to the staff
  5. Discuss results, focusing on those that do not have clear consensus
  6. Record final group answers in the DF
  1. Level II Curriculum and Assessment Sections
  1. Print out questions from Level II Curriculum and Assessment. BLT distributes questions to the staff. Reading and Math are required. Completing additional subjects is at the discretion of the district and building.

Timeline:

  1. 1st: Questions are presented to staff. Review definitions of “ensure”, “level of implementation”, and “require”.
  2. 2nd: Responses are collected and recorded in the Building DF
  3. 3rd: Responses not showing clear consensus are discussed by the BLT
  1. The BLT completes the questions in Level II: Instruction and Professional Development. (Make sure the BLT has read Ohio’s Standards for Professional Development.)

General Tips

  1. Use tools to help gather group responses to questions

The following tools can help groups come to consensus more quickly while answering questions in the DF. If there is general consensus, ask for the evidence. If there is NOT a clear consensus, the group must discuss the evidence and reasoning behind their individual answers.

  1. Clickers
  2. Poll Everywhere (Free)
  3. Construction Paper ½ sheets in red, green and yellow

2. Always ask forevidencethat supports responses. Use observational data, documents,

survey responses, etc. to support your answers.

3. Add a “disclaimer” to the notes being kept regarding certain questions.

At times you may notice there is a wide difference in response to questions when comparing the results by grade band. The district may need to mark the concern/level of implementation as medium which could be an average of all building responses. Disclaimer notes have helped groups move on when they appear to be stuck on a question.

4.Use a timer to keep the group on track and to pace the meeting. Set the timer for a

specified amount of time when the group must gain consensus on certain questions.

There is a consensus making protocol in Stage 0 that can also be useful.

5. Small District or Community School Option

(Representation of data on District DFcould be representative of the Building DF if district has only one building such as a K-12 building.)

  • Consider where appropriate to roll District DF data into Building DF.
