Job Purpose
The Sport and Education Project Officer (SEPO) will primarily be responsible for developing, delivering and coordinating a range of Trust programmes and activities which support participation in school sport, especially within primary schools.
The SEPO will assist the School Sport Manager with the coordination of all the Trust’s services to schools including Premier League Primary Stars and the English Football League’s Move and Learn programmes, plus core school provisions (e.g. PPA, after school clubs, etc.), ensuring that the Trust is seen as a leading provider of PE, football and physical activity in local primary schools. The focus of the delivery attached to the role will depend on which school programme you are delivering, but all schools sessions have similar aims around developing pupils through improving their physical literacy, enhancing their learning, and teaching them relevant life skills and behaviours through sport. Alongside this the SEPO will be expected to work with and support teachers by enhancing their knowledge, skills and confidence in delivering PE and school sport.
The SEPO will be part responsible for quality assuring the Trust’s delivery in schools, supporting with the training and development of staff and sessional coaches. Under your guidance, sessional staff delivering schools provision will need to deliver positive outcomes, which meet targets set in relevant funded programmes. The role will also include working on match day activities and seasonal events (e.g. holiday courses) run by the Trust, as and when required.
In addition there is an expectation on the SEPO to contribute to the further development of the Trust’s work, whilst ensuring the quality and professionalism which is synonymous with the Trust.
Key Result Areas
Principle Accountabilities
Operational
·  Take responsibility alongside the School Sport Manager for the day to day running of the relevant programmes and plan, coordinate and deliver them to the highest possible standard, ensuring that pupils receive an outstanding physical education experience.
·  Help the School Sport Manager plan, coordinate and deliver the Move and Learn programme to the target amount of schools for the academic year. This includes the organisation of sessional coaches, equipment and resources needed for delivery.
·  Deliver PL Primary Stars sessions in line with the KPI’s attached to the programme and seek to achieve the positive outcomes outlined in our yearly delivery plan.
·  Plan, coordinate and deliver relevant competitions, regional and national competitions/tournaments.
·  Advocate the role and importance of high quality PE, school sport and physical activity to partners and stakeholders at all times.
·  Promote an inclusive approach to PE that ensures all young people can enjoy and benefit from participating.
·  Assist the School Sport Manager with undertaking quality assurance checks on our programmes/services provided to schools, including coach observations, generating service level agreements and ensuring health and safety requirements are being followed for working in a school environment.
·  Attend regular meetings with the School Sport Manager and other relevant staff to ensure a collaborative approach is taken to the Trust’s schools delivery.
·  Plan and deliver sports clubs outside of curriculum time and provide exit pathways (e.g. player development centres).
·  Work with the School Sport Manager to generate income sources from schools following free coaching programmes/services being offered to them, so as to generate a sustainable ‘schools coaching programme’ model long term.
Safeguarding
·  Ensure that when planning activities and programmes that the safeguarding of participants is at the heart of the process and that safeguarding policies and procedures are being adhered to at all times.
·  Ensure that any coaching staff working on all schools based provision are taken through the necessary DBS check and that they are suitably qualified to deliver the coaching whilst also holding valid Emergency Aid and Safeguarding Children certificates.
Health & Safety
·  Ensure that all health and safety procedures are in place for activities/programmes and that risk assessments have been completed.
Data Protection
·  Ensure that you are adhering to the policies and guidelines at all times and that programme data is stored in a secure location.
Marketing & Promotion
·  Work with relevant staff, School Sport Manager and external agencies to produce high quality resources, which meet relevant partners brand guidelines and support pupils understanding and confidence in subjects such as PSHE, Numeracy and Literacy.
·  Positively promote relevant community activities and programmes.
Monitoring & Evaluation
·  Ensure that all activities are recorded via the Trust’s online monitoring systems (Views), or other similar systems (as deemed appropriate) to help measure the success of projects.
·  Work closely with the School Sport Manager and Impact & Communications Officer to capture the social impact/value of programmes/events using outcomes based evidence and a variety of methods such as reports, case studies, testimonies, media articles, feedback surveys, etc.
·  Update and manage relevant Trust databases/central records (sessional coaches and participants) in line with data protection guidelines.
·  Provide reports, statistics and case studies for the School Sport Manager and senior Trust staff, as and when required.
·  Ensure sessional staff collate participants and teachers feedback through the evaluation forms linked to specific programmes in order to help shape and support ongoing service improvement.
Finance
·  Ensure programmes planned are financially sound and sustainable.
·  Communicate with School Sport Manager to ensure school provisions are set to achieve budget targets for income and expenditure for relevant programmes.
Personnel
·  Liaise with relevant Trust staff regarding the recruitment of sessional coaching staff, ensuring that you are adhering to the Club/Trust’s recruitment procedures at all times. This includes collating all HR documentation such as reviewing job applications, qualifications, references and ensuring DBS checks are in place.
·  Coordinate, support and develop sessional coaches/volunteers. Thought the School Sport Manager vision and guidance, provide them with training, advice and ongoing support.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Essential
·  At least two years’ experience of working with children and young people of all abilities in a school environment.
·  Experience of working on PL Primary Stars programme or a similar PE teacher education programme.
·  Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football.
·  Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport award (AFPE), or be working towards.
·  FA’s Youth Award Modules 1 & 2, or be working towards.
·  Experience of managing or supervising staff/volunteers.
·  Proficient IT skills.
·  Good organisational and problem solving skills.
·  A full and valid UK Driving Licence, as well as access to a vehicle for work.
·  A passion to make a difference through sport and education.
Desirable
