1. #1. Find seven examples of symbols, such as the American eagle. Draw some simple shapes that could be used for symbols of things familiar to you. Design your own coat of arms using symbols to depict yourself or your family. See if others can guess the meaning of your symbols.

Find, through pictures or actual examples, several items, such as decorated tinware (tole painting), scrimshaw, painted furniture, painted wooden objects (boxes, etc.), decorated chinaware or pottery, stenciled walls and floors, decorative carvings for interior walls or windows, or decorated textiles.
