Japan in a Box

Your goal is to create/assemble numerous cultural items representing Japan and to include them in a decorated shoebox. It is your responsibility to obtain a box for this project. Pictures representing Japan should adorn your “culture box.”
Complete 5 of the following 10 items and place them in your “culture box.”
1. Create a map of Japan with a minimum of 5 cities labeled. Include physical features, as well.
2. Draw Japan’s flag, along with an explanation on an index card of the symbolism illustrated by the flag.
3. Write a mini-dictionary with at least 15 words in Japanese, along with the English translations.
4. Write a diary entry from the point of view of a child your age in Japan. Include the daily routines of this child.
5. Draw or paint a portrait of the current leader of Japan. Include a photograph so we can compare your work. Be sure to include the leader’s name.
6. Create a video/DVD of you demonstrating a custom, ceremony, recreational activity or athletic event that is practiced in Japan, but would be largely unfamiliar to people in the U.S.
7. Design a colorful timeline of recent events in Japan.
8. Write a poem or song about all the great things to see and do in Japan.
9. Craft a replica of a landmark found in Japan.
10. Write the recipe of a dish common in Japan that people in the U.S. might find unusual. Don’t forget to include the ingredients and cooking instructions!
11. If you have other ideas of things you would rather include in your culture box ask your teacher!!
