Location:Smyth Road and Thurston Drive sites with possible travel to other OCTC sites
Purpose of Position:
Under the supervision of the Psychologist / Developmental Paediatrician the psychometrist is responsible for the assessment of children presenting with developmental concerns including Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and physical disabilities. The diagnostic assessment aims to clarify the developmental profile or learning needs of the client.
Promotes quality improvement in all endeavours and supports safety initiatives, to minimize risk and strive for optimal organizational performance and safety benefiting staff, clients, their families, volunteers, visitors and the community.
Works in compliance with the law and with safe work practices and policies established by OCTC to maintain a safe work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct clinical supervision of a Psychologist and/or Developmental Paediatrician:
- Administers and scores a complete range of psychometric and behavioural measures and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team.
- Assists with making recommendations regarding treatment and placement of clients.
- Prepares detailed clinical reports based on assessment results.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team client conferences and interpretive sessions.
- Assists in planning, conducting, and/or implementation of therapy programs based on empirically validated treatment procedures.
- Participates in public education and community services.
- Participates in the Centre’s community through committee membership and representation of psychology / medical services in an interdisciplinary setting.
- Participates in basic and/or applied research programs in conjunction with the program and/or Centre’s needs.
- Participates in evaluative research programs for existing and new clinical programs.
- Due to the changing nature of the job and the job requirements, duties and responsibilities may be added or deleted.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and procedures related to privacy.
- Follows organizational policies and procedures related to safety, including reporting and follow-up for incidents/accidents and near misses, identification and management of risks and emergency procedures.
- Follows routine precautions for infection prevention and control including proper hand hygiene.
- Participates in education and improvement activities related to safety.
- Follows standards of practice for the profession regarding safe application of assessment techniques and development of therapeutic or behaviour programs for clients, families and groups.
- Receives training in safe and effective use of equipment, ensures that any equipment used with client is clean and in proper working order, reports any equipment in need of repair or maintenance.
- Educates clients and their families and helps them understand their role in promoting safety.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education Required:
Masters degree in Psychology from an accredited university (Essential).
Skills and Attributes:
- Clinical experience in the assessment and intervention of children (Essential).
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual Disability (Preferred).
- Experience working on a multidisciplinary team (Preferred).
Professional Licenses and Registrations
- Eligible for registration as a Psychological Associate with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (Preferred).
Language:
Bilingualism (French and English) is preferred.
Other:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Police record check for the vulnerable sector.
Relationship and Responsibility
Reports to: Program Administrator, Early Childhood Program and Clinical Coordinator.
Supervision Received: As required.
Contacts:
Inside: Centre staff.
Outside: Clients, families, community service providers, educational and health
agencies, and government agencies (ADP).
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, as scheduled per the Centre. Possibility of flexible work hours including evenings and weekends.
Work Environment: Office environment. Potential for exposure tocommunicable diseases.
