The Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire (PCC)

Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is composed of a small team of staff the main aim of which is to support the Commissioner in carrying out his role. The office is based in Devizes at Police HQ. The Service Improvement Officer role is for 37 hours per week.

Political Restriction

Please note that this is a “politically restricted post” in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Pension

Employees can join the Local Government Superannuation scheme, which is a contributory (between 5.5% and 7.5%) pension scheme matched by employer contributions.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave is 22 days (162 hours and 48 minutes) per year. This will increase to 24 days (177 hours and 36 minutes) per year after 2 years service increasing to 27 days (199 hours and 48 minutes) after 5 years service with the Wiltshire Police Authority/PCC service.

Pay Scale Structure

Staff are appointed to the Wiltshire Police pay scale. This consists of 15 grades (W1 – W15). A copy of the current pay rates associated with these grades can be found on the HR Intranet site.

Each grade has three spine points. On appointment, an individual will normally be placed upon the bottom spine point for that grade and will progress up through the grade, through the awarding of increments, until the top point of the grade is reached.

No Smoking Policy

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Wiltshire Police operate a No Smoking Policy. This means that smoking is prohibited within the buildings, outside of the buildings in the grounds and vehicles of the Police.

Formal Offer of Appointment

Any offer of a post to a candidate is subject to:

(i) Satisfactory security clearance

(ii) Receipt of satisfactory reference covering the last 5 years employment, which will include a statement regarding the number of days absent due to sickness in last 12 months. This will then be measured by ‘The Bradford Score’ providing a summary measure of sickness absence combining information on both frequency and length of sickness-absence. This may be investigated further.

Probationary period

New appointees (including internal applicants) will be subject to a 6 months probationary period within which 3 progress reports will be undertaken. Following successful completion of this period the appointment will be confirmed. Existing employees that change posts internally are also subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
