Position – Athletic Coach (Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Track, or Baseball)
The PLF Champions Academy is looking for enthusiastic individuals who can inspire and instruct students as well as developandmentor teaching interns. Qualified individuals will beknowledgeable and experienced in the target sport and possessthe creativity andmotivationto work with a team to prepare student athletes for community leadership as well asathletic success.The Champions Academy Athletic team works in partnership with academic coaches, mentors, and parents to form a learning environment that is respectful, challenging and supportive to all students. The ideal Coachdemonstrates passion and commitment toour youth development vision:to create a holistic, culturally responsive learning community that produces Champions.
Key job responsibilities
- Work with the Athletic Director and HeadCoach to continuously seek out methods, tools and training regimens that will engage and challenge every student
- Provoke thought, leadership and creativity as well as mastery of targeted skills
- Develop training programs to address individual athletic strengths and weaknesses
- Create and maintain student records
- Evaluate student progress, make recommendations
- Participate in staff orientation and meetings
Qualifications
- Possess 2+ years coaching experience in specific sport
- Experience working and/or living cross-culturally
- Basic knowledge of and enthusiasm for team athletics
- Spanish a plus
About Portland Leadership/Champions Academy
The Portland Leadership Foundation exists to strengthen and develop leadership for the spiritual and social renewal of Portland, OR. Champions Academy is an annual, six-week summer academy designed to successfully prepare student athletes, grades 3 through 12, for academic promotion and post high school transitions. Champions Academy works in partnership with HOLLA Mentors, Warner Pacific College, Portland and surrounding Public Schools serving underrepresented students and a variety of athletic, community and civic organizations to provide a holistic, culturally responsive approach to leadership development and instruction.
Program Dates:June 25 through August1, 2018; staff orientation June 19-22
Location: Portland, OR
This is a part-time position and includes orientation and(10) 90-minute coaching sessions.
